[Connor has been perched in his window for some time, carefully observing all these noisy explosions down in the city. He has no idea what's going on, but nobody seems to be panicking, so...

What is the purpose of these explosions? Does anyone know? Is this normal?

Huh? No, only on the fourth of July. [A pause, people are from different worlds, different times here. It's hard to remember that sometimes]

It's for Independence Day. When America got...well, independence.

Pretty sure, yeah. It gets drummed into us a lot.

[Well, that means...] Then you are American?

Uh huh. I'm from Georgia.

[Luckily!!! he knows some geography, and Georgia is a thing in 1770.]

I have heard of Georgia, though I have never been there. I am from what the British call New York.

[Well, this is sure an interesting conversation. Someone from the past. Okay, he can do this, he can totally do this]

I've never really been. What's it like..uh in your time?

[It's not that weird, Ben!!! Connor's been dealing with future people for the past few months; if he can do it, you can.

Connor is a pretty polite young guy, so he only sounds a little amused.]

I do not know what it is like in your time, so I do not know how to contrast it. The land I come from, Kanatahséton, is on the edge of a river, in the middle of a valley.

Pretty much. There was a lot of that back home. I guess people got spoiled.

From what I have observed, that is not uncommon in the future. People grow accustomed to luxuries. [He doesn't like to judge, so he won't say 'spoiled,' but...]

We all did, it was so easy to get to, you just expected to always have whatever you wanted whenever you wanted it.

So it is not so much different from here. It may even be easier here.

Yeah, people can just wish for things. They don't have to pay for them or work for them or anything.

There is payment owed to the castle. I have heard it once took more than its regular payment as well.
