I have found myself in the most curious sort of predicament. One moment, I was dead and the next, I am standing in the middle of what I can only describe as a room with a remarkable view. To further complicate matters, I have located this device which is all too foreign to me. Thankfully, I am in full possession of my wits - which are substantial - and I was able to turn it on.

[He pauses to let his words sink in before continuing, his tone as light and unassuming as ever:]

My name is Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, though that is rather much to remember. There was a time that I simply responded to Albus, so I think that shall do for the present time.

What I seek are answers and I will patiently await them until either they drift my way or I discover them on my own.

You see, I came across a most curious object. In the midst of disenchanting it so that it could be used for its original purpose, I was Cursed. The Curse began in my hand and traveled up my arm. I expect I only had a year to live. However, before that year was up, I was finished off, shall we say, by the Killing Curse.

[Of course he had wanted to be killed by Severus, but that just complicates matters.]

I am sorry, Dumbledore. It saddens me to know that was your fate.

I chose it. [Does that help? At all? Albus is a curious man.] I do not regret it and, considering many alternatives, I find that it was merciful.

I suppose that makes the decision easier...

Still, I am glad you are back, friend, even if a bit older than I remember. Yfandes will be glad to hear of it too.

Ah, well she is... it might be easier for you to meet her. She will remember you too, but I think you might be needing to settle in first.

[Well some of their reasoning is the same. Albus held on for most of the year because of Harry. He knew he needed to prepare Harry for Voldemort and the war to come.]

I am most curious to meet this lady. As for putting it off, I assure you that I am available at your convenience.

Well, we could go now. I admit, I would like to speak with you in person. It is not the same, welcoming you back through the journal.

A meeting in person would be agreeable to me. I would like to acquaint myself with the castle and some of my former allies.

Very well. I can meet you down in the foyer and we can walk from there, and it is a bit of a ways, but not much. Are you well enough for that?

A walk would do me good. [He might be old, but he is surprisingly spry.] I shall meet you down there momentarily.
