[Harry had left his journal open on the table and he didn't realise it was recording.] This place is great but it's not home even if it is a castle. I'm twelve today. I wish I was back at Hogwarts.

I wonder if anyone else knows more about James than just Hermione.

I'm ... I'm not so sure I'll ever have a son, to be honest...
If I did, though, I'm sure it would be interesting to talk to him. It can't hurt to try, Harry. James would never turn you away, I promise.

[ And Remus knows he wouldn't even consider it. If he didn't turn Remus away when he found out about his lycanthropy, then he's not going to dare turn away his future son. ]

Magic is nothing more than a word used to describe something that is not understood. Or else it is only a hoax or illusion used to play games with the mind.

I many not fully understand the mechanism that was used to bring me here, but I refuse to call it something like magic. Because it is something that can be explained. It is only something that cannot be explained yet.

But...[Harry thought for a moment before answering.] What if I used my wand to make you fly? Would you believe in magic then?

Of course not! I would be flying, but not because of magic. There is nothing in the world that cannot be explained with logic and science.

Just from that much information it is impossible to say. Like Holmes said once "It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts."

[ James is sort of lurking right now, debating if he should say anything or not. Not that Harry knows this of course, but hey he doesn't want anyone giving Harry any false information about him!

Also he's not sure how to talk about himself without sounding too full of himself. This has never been a concern for James before this point in his life, but suddenly... it kind of is. ]

[Harry's not sure if he wants to send a private message to James or not. But how do you say I'm your son from the future with tact? And what if James didn't want to know him? There'd probably be a lot of questions about how Harry never knew him.

Maybe this wasn't a good idea after all.]

[ Nonsense! Well, okay most of that isn't nonsense, but to think James wouldn't want to know his own son is. Though he's having just as much trouble finding a way to approach this as Harry is.

It takes a moment but he does finally clear his throat. ]

What's all this about knowing more about me?

[Harry hadn't realised he'd left the book open and almost swore seeing James on the page but took a breath and answered slowly.]

Well, you're a friend of Hermione's so I want to get to know you?

[So perhaps not the best thing to say but he's no idea how to tell him the truth. How do you tell your dad who's not much older than you that you're his son? Not even counting the death thing it's hard!]

[ Well, the son part James has figured out on his own from some things people have said to him, though he hasn't let Harry in on that fact yet. The death thing, however? That's not something he's aware of yet. ]

Is that really all?

Not really no. But could we meet somewhere? I think it's better to talk off the journals.

[staggeringego]

[ Meeting his son in person and in human form for the first time? He's not about to say no to that. ]

Suppose we could. Did you have anywhere in mind?

I thought maybe outside? [Where they're be alone enough to talk but there are still people around and he can run away if things go wrong.]

In front of the castle then?

[ It's a busy enough place, but they can always walk somewhere else if they need their privacy. ]

Yeah. Sounds good.

[And Harry rushed off there with trepidation. He still had no idea how to explain but he knew he had to.]
