31 - Care of Magical Creatures Class

Students who are in Care of Magical Creatures this afternoon... Please refrain from bringing snacks along with you. You won't starve between lunch and dinner, and I won't pay for any damages to your robes from ignoring this warning.

[ ... And he won't do anything more than break up the fight if you get mauled by a creature either. If you pissed one of them off, that was because you weren't listening. Jeez.

Regardless of that, Professor Pantarei (Why yes, he may just casually hex any student who decides to make fun of that-) and his teaching assistants will be down out on the grounds with a few Hippogriffs. There's a couple different sizes, like the horse half was a drafthorse rather than a racer, or the bird half was owl rather than hawk. One even looks a bit gangly and too-fluffy to fly yet. ]

[okay so technically Ted is only in his second year and shouldn't even be in this class, but like he even knows that or would stay away even if he did. Because magical creatures are amazing and he wants to look at them]

[ The kid is either small for his age, or he's not supposed to be here. Duke won't mention either, because hey, if he doesn't get hurt and actually learns, there's no problems, right? Totally.

Why is the blind man allowed to be in charge of a class again? ]

Getting close requires respect from the hippogriff. The one on the left - that would be the one that wobbles from time to time - tends to be a little nicer. Meet her eyes, bow, and stay there. She'll either bow back, and you can carefully walk up, or she won't, and you don't get to say hello.

[Allen meanwhile, can be found down helping out with the hippogriffs. For people who know him from Paradisa, there's a few differences about him. For one, he actually looks like he's a twenty-two year old instead of sixteen. He's several inches taller, filled out and oh yeah- actually sounds like a guy when he speaks. Other than the scarred face and weird hair color, all and all it looks like puberty was good to him!]

[Though the job less so much. He's definitely got one of his more patient fake smiles as he makes the rounds and checks up on the different students as deal with the hippogriffs. Sigh. Why does he have this job again?]

The hippogriffs are all calm. I have snacks, so let me know if one eyes a student too much.

...Speaking of the two-legged magical creatures... how many are supposed to be here?

[the 'sir' dies in his throat as his eyes widen. that scar and that hair are way too familiar, and he'd know them anywhere]

[Will watches the hippogriffs with fascination. They were like to an eagle he had once met, and yet not like them at all. He doesn't approach Duke yet, mostly because it seemed to him that Duke had suffered the memory replacement.

And... Will would not tamper with that. It would hurt to much to be seen without being recognized.]

What sort of creatures are these?

[He'll look over at the boy, smiling as he recognizes him...as one of the students! He doesn't think too much about the lack of knowledge, being a muggle-born himself]

Brett said those things could gut a guy in one sweep of their claws. Are you sure we should be working with them?

If you piss one off, sure it will.

[ And Duke won't help anything - One of the hippogriffs is going to get a snack. That sure was a dead weasel he just tossed to one, and it was quickly snapped in half and swallowed. ]

Of course, you're making potions where one ingredient wrong can melt through the cauldron and the stone floor. I don't see how this is worth complaining about.

[Gary hasn't changed...he looks pretty much the same. Only he's wearing robes instead of his usual shirt and tie combination. He's just pacing around the students and creatures...watching them all carefully.]

Ok children...remember that these are proud creatures that easily take offense. Do not make any offhand remark to them or you're likely to be spending the rest of the day attending to talon related injuries.

[another face Gale recognizes, who's acting like he's someone else. oh well, he's had a day to get used to it, and it's a bit like the week last summer when they were all related. he can roll with it. especially since they're not trying to beat the tar out of each other this time]

... If they're so proud ... and I'm just curious ... why do we need to learn to care for them? Wouldn't their pride mean they know how to care for themselves?

[First years do not have Care of Magical Creatures for a good reason. Many are small and easily eaten, and Italy is no exception. He heard something about creatures and got curious, so he followed the clearly older students down to the grounds and lingered on the fringes of the group, but that's certainly enough to see the bigger Hippogriffs through his seniors' legs.]

Uwaah...t-they're not cute at all! They're scary!!!

[Oh jeez, another younger student sneaking in? He'll approach when he hears the sound. He recognizes this kid from the sorting!]

[And there's a fifth year admiring the creatures, choosing to keep his distance especially from the fluffy one... just in case of overprotective parents. He seems particularly fascinated with them. To think he'd ever see such a thing in person. He also has a certain doll in the robe pocket with his wand, where Wizard stayed during Ohjiro's classes. Can't be distracted, now.]

[A young first-year in Hufflepuff robes is wandering on the fringes of the class. She keeps alternating between looking around nervously and staring intently at a piece of parchment. Closer examination shows that the parchment is in fact a class schedule. Eventually she seems to give up, and approaches one of the older, more knowledgeable-looking people.]
