I think we try to be. It's just a matter of making sure we know how to think.

And that's not something that other species think can be taught.

Do you have a lot of experience with other species?

[romana2]

A fair bit. I did a lot of traveling when I was younger. And as president of a planet, it helps greatly to know about the species which we associate ourselves.

You're the president of an entire planet?

[romana2]

Well, not just the planet, of course. Gallifrey and all her dominions...

So you're the president of a space empire. That's rather impressive.

Is it?

[Romana wouldn't know this is just the way things have been for awhile.]

I suppose it could be. They were grooming me for this role from the time I entered the Academy, so I just take it as something that was meant to happen.

Considering as far as my species is concerned, we're the only intelligent life in the universe -- yes, I find that very impressive.

[romana2]

[Romana's not impressed.]

Then your species lacks intelligence itself. What's the point of all that space if you're the only ones intelligent enough to appreciate it?

[alias_savant]

I never said I was a skeptic. I just haven't given it much though.

[there's a pause where if they were face to face, there would be a shrug]

It's simply the prevailing theory.

And your time here hasn't proven otherwise to you?

[alias_savant]

It's certainly expanded my horizons, but that doesn't mean that my world is the same as yours. From what I understand, the castle doesn't pull us all from the same place.

[romana2]

While that may be true, doesn't the fact that we're all here from different worlds, prove to you that there's life outside of your planet?

[Which was her point all along.]

[alias_savant]

It's proved that there's life outside my dimension. Worlds doesn't always mean planets.

[a beat]

Perhaps this is me being skeptical, but I think that depends entirely on the definition of life. Intelligent life, possibly. Though if they do exist, I would very much like to meet them.

If you're right and there's no one else... intelligent... it's a lot of wasted area.

No one ever said that the universe operated in a practical way.

[romana2]

What a sad place that would be to live.

[Romana's feeling pity.]

And I believe I have wasted enough of your time.

Time is never wasted when it's good conversation.

Then there is something we can agree upon... However, there are things that I must get back to.
