[Mitsuru was out in the castle grounds by the duck ponds. It was another one of those nights where she couldn't sleep with all these thoughts about home and Paradisa racing through her weary mind. She was accompanied by a puppy - Weiss - and she's carrying a fighter jet plushie with a red colored tip on it's right wing in her arms. 

Walking by the side of the ponds, she sat on a bench with Weiss jumping to her side to bite the jet plushie]

Be careful, Weiss. You wouldn't want to ruin it... 

[But Weiss just kept on biting the plushie jet, ignoring Mitsuru, causing her to sigh]

I wish Aigis is here. I remember she is capable of understanding canine language. 

[Mitsuru looks to the starry sky and closed her eyes, beginning to slowly hum a song that's been dwelling in her mind]

.... Do you think something is bothering... Weiss?

[ He may be hinting at that he might be able to understand the dog.

As for why he's out and about, that might be a blanket that he's folding up. Duke likes the outdoors, okay? ]

[Mitsuru snapped out from her trance and looked to Duke]

Oh. I'm not quite sure. Animals were never my expertise.

Ah.

[ Duke settles upright and shifts to tug hair out of the way of blankets. ]

... I could ask.

You could communicate with canines? Well, if you'd be willing to...

With... most animals.

[ He usually doesn't talk about it. ]

If you don't find it terribly awkward to watch someone hold a conversation with a canine.

[ He understands the barks and whines and growls back. ]

[Mitsuru lifts a brow, curiously, when Duke growled back at Weiss. But she takes him seriously enough to believe he has the ability to communicate with animals.

Weiss just said he misses his master, who is put on a loss by the castle in the meantime. But the puppy was curious enough of Duke that he jumped at him to lick his face. He's a very friendly little pup. Mitsuru couldn't help but chuckle quietly]

[ And Duke puts up with some dog kisses for a little bit before finding that spot that's insanely hard to scratch on one's own and gives attentive distractions so he can wipe his face on a sleeve, before turning his head toward Mitsuru. ]

Misses the one you are watching him for.

I see.

I suppose I should have known. The castle has reportedly been putting random residents in long slumbers. I myself have experienced that first-hand.

[Mitsuru gently takes Weiss away from Duke and puts him down on the bench]

Although tonight is another sleepless one for me.

I mostly have faint recollections of being a cat.

[ And once he was a dragon, although it didn't include a great deal of sleep. ]

Fresh air occasionally helps with that. Of course, it differs person to person.

I see. I still consider myself fortunate not to have fallen prey to the castle's temporary "losses". I only hope it stays that way.
