♠♠♠ WARNINGS: blood, cutting and talk about self harm and sacrifice.
[There are some doodles on the page. A heart. A heart with a knife in it. A 7 of hearts playing card. A heart on fire...
Eventually Steve gets bored of his somewhat morbid drawings and starts to write:]
[WARNINGS FOR BLOOD, CUTTING AND TALK ABOUT SELF HARM AND SACRIFICE]
It's fascinating. The Aztecs used to believe that the Gods created the world out of their own blood and that it was only through the use of human blood that it could be sustained. Quetzalcoatl was the first God to cut himself and let his blood run down to start the creation of the world. His is the first reported act of blood letting throughout history. They believed that humans owed the Gods an enormous debt since they had created the world upon which they lived. A debt that could only be repaid with blood sacrifice. This was done by blood letting and even piercing their flesh - a precursor to pierced ears and a plethora of body modifications done today. Droughts and famines were thought to be eradicated by sacrificing humans to their Gods to try to regain the balance that was necessary for life on their world to continue.
[There's a CLICK that some may recognize as the sound of a switchblade being flicked open. He takes a slow breath and if anyone is listening closely enough they may hear the soft sound of something being sliced... something like, for example, human flesh. A few drops of blood land on the page, blurring a few of the words. The writing continues but now it seems to be written in blood Every once in a while there is a soft hiss of pain as he, uh, re-inks his pen.]
They were known to use a stone knife to cut open the sacrifice's chest and remove their heart. The victims were no longer humans but more akin to gods. By being killed in this way they were elevated to be the embodiment of a God on Earth. As such it was considered a great honor to be sacrificed and each went willingly to their death. That's not to say that it is some manifestation of an ancient Aztec God who has deigned to come here to restore balance to this place. It is yet one possibility to be entertained.
One possibility that I shall examine this night. I have spent the day preparing myself in the manner the Aztecs prepared their sacrifices. I shall offer myself to our unknown assailants as a willing sacrifice. Perhaps one made in this fashion will fulfill their need and remove them from your midst. There is no need to thank me. I do this not out of a desire for glory but of the curiosity that haunts all men.
((OOC: Note: He is NOT scheduled to be killed by the Gentlemen. He's just an idiot. Tonight he will be found sitting cross legged in the middle of the lobby wearing a white cloth tied around his waist... and nothing else. He has beaded necklaces around his neck and his hair is up in a knot high on the back of his head. His left forearm has a gash down the top that has been stitched up with dark thread. He keeps his eyes closed and awaits what he assumes is his inevitable fate.))

Well aren't YOU special?
No. And it is a shame that they are all failed since your mother doesn't seem to have any problem whatsoever.
Yes Tucker is.

I'd ask if you wanted ice for that burn, but it's so covered in shit that it probably set itself on fire before it did any real damage.

The doors of the lobby open wide, and in hobble the burly minions with the Gentlemen gliding by behind them. They have a particular heart in mind for this evening, but it never hurts to look around, either.]

Welp this might not have been the best plan after all.
But he's committed. He can't back down, can he?
He takes a deep breath and pushes himself to his feet, spreading his arms wide and watching those CREEPY as fuck guys coming towards him.]

...Interesting history lesson.

He rolls his eyes and picks up his journal and the pen laying nearby, writing and holding it up to her]
Thank you. Now if you do not mind I am laying myself out as a sacrifice. I wouldn't want you to get in the way and risk your own life as well.
Re: /hugs
[Writing back, of course...]
I don't think sacrificing yourself to these things would work... After all, they want seven hearts, don't they? You've got only one.
[She holds her journal up so he can see.]
