Comfort Food

[Finding his way to the dining hall, Rodney sits himself down at a random chair at the largest empty table he can find. For a minute he just sits there tapping his fingers on the table... thinking.

He's not tried this wishing thing yet. He's not really he's fully sure how it works, but if the Castle has already taken payment from him he's damn sure he's not going to waste it. And, he's a scientist after all. What good would he be if he didn't experiment.

With that he clears his throat and begins...]

I wish for ice cream sundae, make it caramel, no hot fudge and whip cream and a cherry. Or better yet, make the ice cream pistachio, hmmm or maybe Neapolitan would be better.

Better yet, a banana split with a scoop of vanilla, chocolate, and ... not strawberry, um... how about chocolate chip?

Oh, now you know what would be good, chocolate chip cookie dough! It's been like forever since...

[Suddenly the table began filling with the different ice cream treats that Rodney mentioned and some he only had thought about but hadn't yet said.]

Uh, oops?! I think I may have gone a bit overboard. If anyone cares for some ice cream...

[Chell walks in ... and gawks. That is a LOT of ice cream. But she hears what he said, and wanders over, flopping down across the table from him and snagging a sundae.]

[She grins.]

[Rodney smiles at Chell, impressed with her manners.]

[silentrunning]

[And she grins back.]

You have brilliant taste in ice cream, sir.

Well, thank you! I like to think so too. What is your favourite flavour?

[silentrunning]

[She thinks for a long moment...]

[Rodney raises an eyebrow.]

It wasn't that hard of a question!

Now, let us hope my phone doesn't EAT things this time. ]

[She notices his raised eyebrow and explains herself.]

Well, I'd never had ice cream at all before I came here, so I was mentally analyzing all the kinds I'd had. I like pestasio and chocolate best.

[She explains.]

I also like that odd chewie candy shaped like bears people sometimes put in their ice cream.

Oh. That doesn't sound good.

Gummy Bears? Those are one of my top favourites as well!

[silentrunning]

Yes! Those! They're lovely!

[Rummaging in a pocket of her pants, she pulls out a package and offers him some for his ice cream.]

And no. Being a test subject wasn't good. The facility was run by an AI who wanted me dead.

[genius_here]

[Rodney watches and with his mouth flat-lined he shakes his head indicating no to her offer.] I'll pass. Thanks.

What were they testing for? AI's name wasn't HAL was it?

They were testing the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device.

[She explained, tossing some bears into her ice cream.]

It's a device that will make portals, or basically man-sized tunnels through space. You can walk through a portal in one room and come out one in another... And no. Her name was GLaDOS. Who is HAL?

[genius_here]

Really? How far could these portals go? Just to the next room or further?

[Rodney shakes his head] Sorry, no one. Just another evil AI. Clearly they aren't an isolated incident.

[silentrunning]

Further... Once shot one out onto the moon. At least that's what the AI said. And on that, I'll believe her, because I got sucked out into space too.

Really? You got sucked into space and lived?

[silentrunning]

Yes. She grabbed me and pulled me back in, best I can figure.

Huh! That's... Well, I don't know exactly what that is but if she wanted you dead why didn't she just leave you there?

[silentrunning]

I only wish I knew. She was weird. She... wasn't always an AI. She was a human once. They offloaded her brain into a computer.

Oh! That's actually a really interesting concept... Although clearly it didn't work out for GLaDOS.
