Six more days until I'm the same age as my sister.

...Now that's weird to say.

[Dairine turns from her personal calender to address the journal properly.]

Does anyone else have older brothers or sisters back home? If you pass their age in Paradisa, would you still consider them older than you?

How old is your sister?

As for your question, yes. No. It all depends, I suppose, or... No. Definitely yes.

[A pause.] It's rather complicated, actually.

I see. You're technically, what? Twelve? Thirteen? Do you feel almost fifteen? [Not that he can really comprehend that difference anymore, but he has a good imagination.]

Yes, well. I was young once and it was easier to work out when I was older.

Alas I am an only child.

Sad is itn't it?

I guess I've been older than my big brother for a couple of years, now. Feels pretty weird. But I mean, if he ever showed up he'd still me my big brother. I'd feel older than him, but that wouldn't change.

[An audible sigh. He could say that sometimes she acts younger than that, but now isn't the time and his sigh could very well be for what comes next, because he does understand.] To feel older than such few years is sad indeed.

[He pauses and scratches his head for this one.] You know that there have been different versions of me here, don't you? [The question is practically rhetoric; he expects her to know.]
toobravehearted: (132 Go on I'm listening)

Definitely. When you are twice as old, it might.

[A smile in his voice.] He did get around, didn't he. My Tenth is here. You should meet me-- him. [Personal pronouns and third person reference, what are those in the Doctor's case?]

To make a long drawn out example short, let us suppose I had an elder brother that had regenerated and looked to be considerably younger than I. He would still be my elder brother. That stays constant.

I have many older siblings, but it would take a great deal of time to surpass them in age.

[...yeah, she's going to skip over the question about siblings. The last thing that Dair needs to hear is someone talking about three dead older brothers.]

Am I to understand, then, that your begetting day- [a pause and then a correction]- your birthday approaches?

A parents undivided attention can also be a curse. It is...added pressure for a child to conform to a father or a mothers ideology.

I get a hint that you are speaking from experience when you call them that.

[Just chalk it up to a weird elf thing, Dair. You'll be happier that way.] Do you intend to mark it?

They are far older than me, at least.

[It takes a moment for him to decide upon a response. There are two different answers: the age his vessel, which is now his body, is, and the age that Castiel the angel is. The former is the easier answer, safer because it won't invite as many questions, but the second is the real answer.

The physical age is the one he should give, logically, but some part of Castiel is still clinging to his identity as an angel. Stating his age in human terms seems like giving in, and in a flash of angelic pride he makes his decision.]

I am nearly eight-hundred million years old.

I have always thought of him as an equal.

You are the younger of the two?
