So, like, how did people even figure out about the filters and stuff, huh? On the journals? I mean, the very very very first people who came here. I'm betting the castle didn't exactly give them a manual on "How to Use Your Journal to Maximum Effect While You Try Not to Get Mad About the Fact That I've Done Gone and Kidnapped You". Or maybe it did, I mean sometimes the castle is all helpful, and sometimes it's not... It's like it can't make up its mind. Worse than me when I'm trying to decide between cookie dough and brownie fudge ice-cream.

But aaaaaaaaaaanyway, filters. I mean, who was the first person to find out 'hey, if I write this person's name before I start talking or writing or whatever, no one else will be able to see it'? How did they test it? How did they start stretching it to see that, 'wow, I don't even have to know someone's name to filter to them'? And then someone would have found out about filtering to groups of people, and people who gave them fake names, and all sorts of stuff... And like, it couldn't have happened overnight, could it? But now, everyone knows about it and it's just one of those things that we have to tell the newbies. I dunno, I'm just curious.

I could probably find this out for myself, if I read some of the early pages in the old journal, but I dunno where it is right now. Well, I know where it is: it's in my room somewhere. It miiiiight have gotten swallowed by a mountain of Teen Vogue.

It's a very obscure way of communicating to someone privately. Unless someone had this kind've communication back home, I have no idea how you could actively seek out such a thing.

And I'd have to question the development of a civilization that talks through books like this...sheesh.

I've actually been wondering that myself.

You know, if this entire world is just made up of things taken from other worlds. But then, if it had someone here who was from a place like that, and they were aware of how the filtering works, why has noone else showed up who recognizes anything else?

Plus, let's say it's picking and choosing so people won't recognize parts of their world here...if it's only taking people who are of any use, the ones it sends home...have they stopped being useful? Or maybe the castle picks the wrong people to claim sometimes?

If the last part is true, it'd be comforting and worrying at the same time knowing something as powerful as the castle can make mistakes.

Well, for the first bit... what else would there be to recognise? I mean, I guess it's easy for me to say that, since there's nothing that I recognise from my world, but the journals are the only really special things here, right? Well, the only special, physical things. I think.

Do you really think so? About the picking and choosing thing, I mean. Mostly I thought it was all just random...

Wow, I'm so impressed. I think I have another point to add to my 'why bad guys are jerks' list.

What if the city was pulled right from another world though? Or maybe parts of different cities...along with the people, all made to conform and believe it's just one place...mass brainwashing is possible, I've seen it firsthand, and for something like the castle it would be pretty easy, no?

Plus, someone mentioned there are crystals of some sort here, that function out in the dead zone, whereas magic and technology doesn't? I spoke to someone else who said they have similar crystals back home, that they use to power their technology. There could easily be a connection.
