14th sweater: not a sweater, but a space suit

[A certain tween is standing just outside the ballroom doors in a very familiar space suit. But that's not what one might notice right away.

What they might notice is the large Halloween bounce house that Mabel has wished for and set to one side of the lobby. She can totally explain this.]

While waiting for my cowgirl friend, I figured I would keep my promise to someone in the castle. So I wished for a bounce house! I put it in the lobby, just in case you want to try it. I know, I know, everyone's totally going to the ball. But if you're not or maybe if you just want to bounce a little bit in-between dancing, it's there for anyone to use.

Rules! Because they're necessary. No shoes. Also no sharp edges or costume props. Just leave all that stuff outside the house or you'll pop it. And no popping it just to be mean! I will wish for another, so just don't be a jerk.

Now if you will excuse me, me and my friend are going to Halloween Prom.

Well it might as well be prom. I mean, if they're not in costume, everyone's dressed all fancy.

[Narrowing eyes]

You know what prom is, right?

[stohess]

I assume it's a type of dance. Though not necessarily one like tonight's.

[bezazzled]

[She acts like it's work, but she actually likes being able to tell Annie about modern things.]

Pretty much. It's mostly an excuse for teenagers to get all dressed up in froofy dresses or tuxedos and ride in limos. The girls make a big deal about making sure their shoes match their dresses, and then when they get to the dance they take off their shoes anyway and they have a prom king and queen.

[stohess]

[Ambassador Mabel!]

I don't think I'd look very good in a dress.

[bezazzled]

You would totally look good in a dress! But we're not wearing dresses right now so we don't have to worry about that.

[She moves in closer and straightens Annie's cowgirl hat for her.]

Besides! We look way better this way.

[stohess]

I suppose. [She'll look down at her clothes, making a discerning face at it all.] Remind me what this is supposed to be again?

[bezazzled]

A cowgirl. You know, yippee-ki-yay? You herd cattle around and can throw a mean lasso. Basically, you're awesome.

[stohess]

[Ah. So that's what the rope was for.]

Good to know I have a strong themed costume. [Not an inanimate object...] Wouldn't it have made more sense if you were a cow, though?

[bezazzled]

I guess, but this was more abstract and therefore it makes it more creative, in my opinion. Besides! There's stories about cowboys and space heroes becoming really good friends, so we're following the same theme as them. It's the whole "unlikely duo" thing that works for them.

That, and I just wanted to be able to do this!

[She presses a button, and wings pop out from the pack on her back.]

[stohess]

[HOLY SH--] Interesting enough.

How did you get it to do that?

[bezazzled]

[She turns around so Annie can get a better look at the pack.]

The wings hide inside! They're spring operated, so when I push a button, it releases the springs and the wings spread.

[She feels that any other explanation might have been lost. Such is the way things are when your friend is from another era/alternate universe.]

[stohess]

[She'll look at it, scrutinizing it... Linefacing squint.]

Did you make it yourself, or did you wish for it?

[bezazzled]

[Mabel slouches a little, looking embarrassed.]

I wished for it. But that's only because I wanted it to look the best! I'm an artist and all, but I don't think I could have pulled this off as well on my own. At least now you can say your Halloween partner-in-crime is among the best dressed.
