My name is Bilbo Baggins and I wish to plant some potato and carrot plants within the soil here.

Spike, advised me to speak with you, regarding planting of vegetables within the castle grounds. I spoke with him first and he says that you know a great deal about plants and flowers. Could you perhaps give me some advice in the area? I will be very much grateful. Thank you.

If anyone knows where the best places to plant both potato and carrot plants within the castle grounds, please contact me. I hope to harvest them for either soup, pie or possible another use. I just wondered if there are any other people within the castle with green fingers, apart from Brock. A man called Spike recommended that I speak with him on the matter. Hobbits love planting vegetables, growing and eating them, so it's only natural for me.

Uh, yeah. Hey. I have a little plot of land southwest of the castle that people can use for growing stuff. I mean, I'm no expert, but I can give you some tips if you want. I used to have a guy who --

Oh, hello there. You have? [Yes, he'd love some advice on planting things, Brock. Bilbo is a gardening fanatic.]

Frodo? Yes, he's my cousin.

Huh. Well, okay. When he was still around, he used to kind of work for me -- taking care of my garden and stuff. [Not that he paid him.]

But yeah, generally speaking, the soil's pretty good for growing whatever here. It's starting to get cold so now's probably a good time to plant cabbage or beets or something.

Cabbage and beetroot? A good idea. [Yes. They will do nicely for whatever the hobbit may cook up.]

Is there anywhere in particular I am supposed to plant the vegetables? A particular plot in the castle grounds?

Not really, just find some land and go for it. If you need help clearing anything, let me know -- you could always use my land too, if you wanted; it's kind of like a community... thing, but nobody really uses it that way.

Thank you for your help, Brock. I will plant some seeds and hopefully next season they should sprout and be ready to be eaten.

I don't know, but there's plenty of gardens out back of the castle. I'm sure there's some land you could use out there somewhere. I actually hadn't thought about growing my own vegetables here, though. Sounds like it would be a good idea. Even if I...don't really know how.

We hobbits are always planting vegetables back home, so I wondered if it is alright to do so here also. Do you like growing vegetables too?

I've never really tried! Outside of those experiments they have you do with a bean in elementary school, anyway. Besides, not a lot of room for it in the city.

Well, I suppose so. I was meaning within the castle grounds to plant something. [Bilbo had no intention of planting anything whilst the castle was having an event. Florence was an alien world to him.]
