26 | In Which the Castle has a Sense of Humor [Dictated]

I understand the castle likes to give us gifts as a token of the season, but if it's going to toss my old wardrobe at me, it could, at the very least, make sure it's not in pieces when it does so.

Because that's less a gift and more using my closet as an inter-dimensional rubbish heap.

[Of course, anyone who's seen his room might wonder how he'd even notice.]

The difficulty is my housekeeper. She's not even here, but the castle has seen fit to remind me of what a terror she is.

Well, I did have her impersonate my mother...

Oh, this should be good. Why did you have her do such a thing? Were you lonely?

Oh, far from it. I needed someone to go blacken my name with the king, and as she loved to point out all my faults endlessly, she seemed the right choice.

I hope you paid her extra.

She never actually asked for a wage at all.

Doing it for the fun, then?

Or to make my life a torment. I'm not quite sure which.

Well, considering it was to benefit you in that instance, it can't have been that much of a torment for you.

She failed, utterly. It wasn't much of a benefit at all.

I would say something about intentions but in this case I am no longer sure.
