[Except it's not really a message. Young Legolas has gotten a whole of his journal and is now drawing in said journal. First appears a drawing of a deer and then a tree followed flowers and a river. He's a surprisingly good artist (for a child) and doesn't stop there. All sorts of small forest animals start appearing on the page. And the next. Never anything scary though, Legolas sticks with the nice animals.

And he doesn't at all realize that everyone else in the castle can see this.]

[It takes Thranduil a moment to recognize the drawings, and realize what he's seeing - Legolas had covered strips of bark, and paper when he could get it, with awkward letters and drawings of everything for years as he'd learned to write and had drawn and drawn. Here he was provided with paper; of course he was drawing.

And, well, it was a magic notebook, and Thranduil didn't need an excuse to add a touch more wonder to his son's life. So he began to edit Legolas's drawings, adding in details that he had not - falling leaves little creatures, flowers blooming. The art was almost alive, with details blossoming out of nothing.]

[Here, have a certain someone drawing a GIANT SPIDER into this scenescape!]

[The journal picks up a delighted sound from Legolas as the new drawings start to appear, several moments spent just watching before he adds a small figure jumping to catch the leaves.]

[That's just AWFUL!

Legolas gives a cry and quickly scribbles in a warrior firing an arrow at the spider.]

[woodking]

[He smiles, and draw the leaves spiraling into the hands of the figure, and a bird flying down with them. Leaves are easy enough.]

[Oh, Sugar likes this!

Grabbing a few crayons, she starts drawing a very misshapen teddy bear next to the other forest animals. Her drawing looks much more her age, perhaps even younger. It's hard to draw when you are the size of the crayon.]

[Oh that's different. Legolas draws in a butterfly then, just kind of lazily flying around the teddy bear and then a couple flowers growing around it.]

[Of course! He's less than twenty years old and with a whole new world to explore as well as a magic journal that drawings appear in! Who couldn't have fun with that?

And who can resist a treasure chest? So here comes the addition of a child opening it.]

[Sugar draws a somewhat floppy flower under the butterfly. It looks like a sad daisy, though that was unintentional.]

[Legolas clearly has the best dad ever. And speaking of his dad, he adds another figure and draws a flower crown on him.]

[It does look sad so the clear answer is to draw a sun and light rain so the flower with perk up!]

[Oh! Oh! She knows what this needs now.

Sugar quickly adds what she hopes looks like a sun and rain fairy up in the sky. You probably look more like winged stick figures playing a trumpet and violin. She draws some music notes around them.]

...Those are very good. [There's something wistful in her writing. They remind her of Peeta's drawings.]

[Flowers grow in the smaller figure's hair, and sweep down away from him, spilling across the ground.]

[Legolas writes very carefully:]

Thank you. Ada lets me draw a lot back home.

[greenleafling]

[Oooh. That's different. They don't have fairy's in Middle Earth. So carefully, he writes:]

What are those?

[Another delighted sound from the elfling before he goes to a different part of the page and draws the pair again, the small of them holding up flowers.]

[Her fingers go over the drawings, as she looks at the childish scrawl.]

Who is Ada? And have you been to all these places?

[sugarwaffo]

Huh? [Thankfully the journal translates the writing into fairy so Sugar can understand it. However, she speaks instead of writing back. It's probably for the best; even if someone could read fairy writing, her handwriting is atrocious.]

They're season fairies!

[greenleafling]

[He'll switch to dictation too, if only for the ease of contact.]

We do not have those where I am from.

[greenleafling]

It means 'father.' And yes, but never for very long. He takes me out into the forest when it is safe.

[greenleafling]

[It's not so much the treasure that fascinates Legolas as the fact that it's something new and he's a curious little thing.

Even if they are only drawings.

Legolas is absolutely ecstatic now and draws the child again, this time excited and playing with the coins.]

Is the forest not safe for you? [She looks at the picture again, her lips pursing together.] It ... looks safe enough.

There are safe places but otherwise the forest has a lot of giant spiders and animals that are not normal.

When I am bigger, I want to go hunting with the other guards and keep Mirkwood safe.

...Well, I know a little about forests like that, and your father is right. That's dangerous for a little boy.

[She frowns a little - Mirkwood sounds familiar ...] Well, are you a good warrior?
