Haven't you seen a spindle before?

And haven't you seen how dull and dreary the castle seems of late? The white walls seem almost grey and the marble floors have lost their shine. Even the chandeliers seem made of grimy glass. Perhaps that drowsy spell has even the mighty castle in its grasp. What a thought!

But today the sleepers have risen, all of them feeling an indelible call to shuffle and stumble toward the Insolitus. There is something most precious to them hiding behind that named door, and they would do all they can to protect it. Their eyes may be closed shut, their movements hindered by sleep, but they are keenly aware of anyone seeking to harm their most beloved treasure.

Voices of many sleepers, all of them monotonous, speak in unison:

“ You should have let sleeping dogs lie. ”

[ It hums in thought, chewing on one finger as it does. Then-- eureka! ]

What walks on four legs in the morning, two legs in the afternoon, and three legs in the evening?

Oh! I know this one...[she scrunches her face thoughtfully] A man! ...A man? Well, I guess you are a small one, but...

But I did!

[ Though who is to say it is a man? Or a little girl or a little boy? The fact of the matter is that it's young. Painfully so. Younger than it had ever been before. ]

I walked on three once, and two, and thousands! But I've found how to turn it back.

Time, you mean?

No! I'm not time, silly, but I do need it. Would you give me some?

I'm not really sure how I'd do that. What do you need more time for?

Time is always running out.

[ It says so in such a sing-song voice. ]

If you sleep, just for a little bit, I can borrow just a little more.

[Her eyes narrow] What about my time? How would I know you'd let me wake up at all?

But I promise!

[ Look at that face. It can't possibly not keep its promises, right? ]

You have too much anyway.

As a human being, I tend to think we don't have that much at all...

Maybe in other places, but here you have lots and lots of it! Haven't you noticed?

I haven't been here that long. But still, even if you really needed all this time, why do you have to make them suffer to get it? The dreams they're having must be so terrible...
