Anyone looking out a window - provided it was in the right direction - could probably spot Duke. He is wearing his normal red and black, and hasn't seen fit to do anything to his white hair, as usual, so it isn't like he blends in. He also is holding a glowing sword. The red isn't terribly bright, but there is white glowing from under and about his fingers. Its a little bright.
His behavior is a bit odder - he paces out a clear section once, twice, then circles it. In his footsteps, he leaves a faint red trail that looks quite a bit like strings of math. Once complete, it flares for a second, then the math turns into words - WARNING, CROSS CAREFULLY - in letters about a hand tall. In the center of his new bubble, he sits on... nothing, heels floating a half inch or so above the grass, blade across his lap.
What to work on first? He had been reading about quite a few different types of magic, what was the most interesting to try?
Within a few minutes, there looks like someone's wooden, single story house, although its oddly lacking details - like the space between planks of wood, or the color of the wood isn't quite right. Illusions are hard when you can't see. ]
[ Dictated ]
... What do worlds have, when they do not have what are considered monsters? [ He sounds a little distant, like he's focusing on something else entirely. He is, so he is speaking a bit slowly. ]
Are they dull and uneventful, without mushrooms that grow taller than two men standing atop each other, or do their ... humans, their non-monsters, grow to more variety to take their places?

Was he practicing something? Or was he preparing some spell? She can't read the words, but everything he does? It makes her confused. And also curious. He definitley had to be a magician, right? But she couldn't see him have any staff, so the sword must be a replacement for that.
So, she jumps out of the third floor window, leaping right out and landing with a soft thump, not too far away. Having strong legs helps when crossing a distance. ]
action
Duke hears the thump, the steps that follow when she is close enough - but doesn't really think anything of it. If she chooses to cross the line, there's a faint chiming noise, like a bell that lets the shop owner know a customer is there. If she approaches the house, she finds that it really has some flaws. Like not being solid at all. ]
action
Curious house, though. It's an illusion, and not like the houses that she's heard Yunan makes of air. Clouds. Or whatever. ]
He~lloo~?
action
[ Except he thinks he recognizes that voice, and recognizing it would place the 'intruder' as 'girl who can't read'. He'll have to add something else to it - make the spell react to humanoids and give "please do not cross" messages, or something. ]
... Although nothing dangerous is happening at the moment...
[ He's still seated on nothing like it was a chair, complete with his coat not falling straight to the floor under him. ]
action
[ She only sounds half apologetic, though. She's not one to worry too much about past mistakes, if they didn't hurt anyone she cared about.
She comes over the last bit, peering at him curiously. ]
What're you doing?
Re: action
[ Yep, he recognizes her voice now. Girl who can't read! ]
I have never attempted illusions before.
Re: action
[ She's been at war with magicians, but the Academy was allies now, after all. ]
I think it looks pretty alright, for it to be the first time.
action
[ Duke tilts his head toward her. ]
Good. It is based off of a memory, and I cannot check if it matches.
action
Well, that I can't do either. But I've seen illusions before, at least.
action
Does it hold up to those you've seen?
action
Sort of? I've mostly only seen Lady Scheherazade's, and she was really good. Like, the best.
action
I already know it will not hold up against Phaeroh's, as his was... a great deal more than just an image...
but cannot recall if illusions existed as more than heat mirages....
action
Sorry, I can't be of much help with that. You asked if there are any people who can make illusions around, and give you pointers?
action
... that would require asking for help.
[ And his tone should indicate how he feels about that. Apparently its a little different to be working on it, and people walk up and he asks them about it. ]
action
Why not? You can ask in the books, right?
action
It is more the asking others for aid that I don't like. I would rather work on this until I believe myself stuck before asking.
[ Or he'll find another project and start working on that when he's stuck. Who knows. ]
action
action
Trust. I need to trust someone else, in asking for help, and that is hard.
action
[ She knows. She didn't trust anyone until fairly recently. If it hadn't been for the Corps, she still wouldn't. ]
