[Kate had tried. She had really tried to totally ignore the egg. She had ignored it when she'd woken up to find it had appeared on Castle's bed stand. She ignored it when he started poking it excitedly. She ignored it when she came into the room and found it sitting nestled between her pillow and some blankets. She ignored it so much, and with so much of her heart and soul, she was almost sure at some point she would blink and it would simply vanish.

Instead, it hatched.]

Hey. Hey! No, off the bed! Off the bed! What, you want to chew up the other pillow too? How about my shoes? You want one of those, too!

[It takes a moment for Kate to realize her journal is open. Mainly because the small direwolf puppy that hatched is now chewing on the corner, droplets of drool hitting the paper and she swats him to get him away.]

Castle! I swear... [She is going to strangle him. But since her journal is already open, she might as well take some advantage of it.] Does anyone have any... I don't know, dog food?

Almost...hmmm...almost a year, now that I think about it...

A year? Wow. That's... A while.

Yeah, I guess so. I try not to think about it too hard.

[themuse]

You must really miss home.

More than you know...

I get it. Maybe not a year's worth of getting it but I get it. This place is definitely... Not somewhere I imagine spending the rest of my life, that's for sure.

Well, yeah, but it's not just that's. I was away from home for a few years before I even got here.

[themuse]

Insult to injury, huh? [Regardless of the cliched words, her tone was still sympathetic.] Well, I hope you find a way home soon.

Here's hoping for all of us, really. [In a way, at least Wade was used to the idea of being lost in a world that wasn't her own. It allowed her to take a lot of it in stride. Except for those days she missed her friends especially.]

[themuse]

[ Kate herself was still fumbling. She had finally started to figure out herself and her place the world she had lived in, so getting spirited away to a whole new reality was still something far outside of her grasp. ] Me too. There's... gotta be a way out. It's just a matter of finding it.

Maybe if the castle was a computer I could hack into I'd think I had a chance at that.

Could that be possible? I mean... I haven't exactly bought into the "magic" story. I really think there is something else that can explain all of this.

[freeslider]

I think anything is possible. I've seen some amazing things even before I got here that I could only call magic, and some things that science has accomplished that I never would have thought possible. There's a lot of room for diversity in the universe, and maybe magic fits in there somewhere. I don't know.

Not that I won't stop keeping an eye out for a hidden server room.

[themuse]

[ Kate smirks at that. ]

I wish I came from the kind of place where I could believe it. But I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for you, too, just in case.
