[Kate had tried. She had really tried to totally ignore the egg. She had ignored it when she'd woken up to find it had appeared on Castle's bed stand. She ignored it when he started poking it excitedly. She ignored it when she came into the room and found it sitting nestled between her pillow and some blankets. She ignored it so much, and with so much of her heart and soul, she was almost sure at some point she would blink and it would simply vanish.

Instead, it hatched.]

Hey. Hey! No, off the bed! Off the bed! What, you want to chew up the other pillow too? How about my shoes? You want one of those, too!

[It takes a moment for Kate to realize her journal is open. Mainly because the small direwolf puppy that hatched is now chewing on the corner, droplets of drool hitting the paper and she swats him to get him away.]

Castle! I swear... [She is going to strangle him. But since her journal is already open, she might as well take some advantage of it.] Does anyone have any... I don't know, dog food?

Same. So yeah should I bring that dog food over?

Yeah, thanks. We're in room 210.

[Aaron grabs a spare bag of dog food and makes his way over to room 210. He then knocks on the door and waits for an answer]

[ Kate opens the door, and immediately is almost knocked over by a bounding direwolf puppy trying to fight through her legs to get to the new arrival. ]

Hey, hey, knock it off! [ Kate nudging him back with her food, offering Aaron an apologetic smile. ] Sorry, we haven't exactly gotten to the training point with him yet.

[Aaron cracks a smile and looks down on the excited puppy.] It's all right. That's a puppy? He looks pretty big already.

[He then hands over the dog food.] So yeah I got the dog food. Clyde likes it so maybe your puppy will too.

[ Kate takes the bag, balancing it with one arm while she tries her best to get a handle on the dog. ]

Yeah, he's a little on the big side. Castle named him Bones. [ She pulled the dog's collar back slightly. ] Uh, you wanna come in?

Action

[teenagebadboy]

Uh sure. [He steps into the room and places the dog food on a nearby bench.] Bones is a good name.

I think he's more excited about all of this than I am. [ Kate grabbed one of the toys that Castle had wished up earlier - it was already half chewed to bits - and tossed it to the dog to distract him. ] You want a drink or anything?

He's a puppy. Puppies are excited about everything. Yeah sure, I'd like some tea if you got any. If not I can drink coffee.

Action

[themuse]

[ Kate smirked. ] I meant Castle. I think he's wanted a dog for a while, this is sort of a dream come true for him. I think we have some tea. [ She started to dig around in a drawer, finally pulling out a teabag and setting the kettle on to start boiling. ]

Alright. You live with him? I spoke with him about video games some time ago.

More or less, I guess. [ Kate had never really thought about it in terms of them living together, since their arrangement here was more or less what they had back home. She spent more time in his loft than she did at her own place before she moved to DC, and they had just been ready to get a place together. ] I have my own room but there's not much point in me spending a lot of time there. He definitely knows a lot about video games.

Yeah I know the feeling. Back in the days I spent a lot of my time at my boyfriend's place rather than home. Too much going on at home with the newborn baby and all.

[themuse]

Newborn baby? [ Kate poured the hot water in the cup and dropped the teabag in, bringing it over to him. ] I take it that the baby wasn't yours?

Action

[teenagebadboy]

[Snickers] It wasn't, thank God. I'm far too young for that. I'm only 20. No the baby belonged to Paddy and his girlfriend. Paddy's a good mate I lived with back home. I'm the baby's godfather though.

[Takes the tea and nods back at her.]

Oh. Well, that's nice. I'm a little older than you and I still feel too young to have a baby sometimes.

[ Her and Castle had talked about it, of course, and she figured it was inevitable, but it was still a strange thing to think about. Kate made a cup of tea for herself and sat down next to him. ]

[He takes a deep sip of his tea.] Babies are hard work. Things gets messy and stinks.

[themuse]

[ Kate nodded and took a sip of her own tea. ] I've never been great with babies. I think it'll be a while before I have one of my own.

[teenagebadboy]

Doubt I'll get any babies of my own. Just seem like it would be too much work.

[themuse]

I can see how it could be rewarding. My fiance already has a grown daughter, and she's a great kid.

[teenagebadboy]

Maybe. But I don't think I can handle putting up with all the other bad stuff. I'm just getting my own life back on track so I would rather not have some kid to mess with me.

[themuse]

I... definitely understand that. [ A few years ago, Kate wasn't even considering kids. Her own life was too much of a trainwreck to bring a child into that. She'd come a long way. ] I'm glad you feel like you're getting your life back together, though. I know that can be a difficult process.
