Um. I found an egg in my room. Not a normal egg...apparently it's a baby. I-I need to find Nita Callahan? I'm sorry, but apparently the child is hers as well. Has this ever happened before? This is not like last year.

It has not happened before, but I safely assume they are meant to be like our children. I do not think they are so very terrible.

I don't know, but I'm not risking it, dangerous or not. The egg contains a baby of some sort, according to the note. A baby can't be held responsible for the castle's games.

No, not terrible. I mean, I have no idea what is inside the egg. I am concerned, but as much for the...child, as myself. I'm more worried about having a partner.

Oh, yes that... I do suppose that once the egg is hatched you do not have to really participate with them. Though I do think you need them to make the egg hatch and the Castle will be unhappy if you do not.

Um, no, the egg isn't small. It's about the size of a human baby. Well, human babies don't come in eggs, but there's nothing to say the castle would only give me a human baby.

Yes, I wouldn't want to make the castle unhappy. [Bruce's response is both grim and sarcastic.] It's not that I don't want to interact with the person, but...well, it's a bit awkward sharing a child with someone I've never even met.

I admit that is a bit strange, but the child does not last. They go back to... wherever it is they came from after about a week or so. You miss them more than you think when that happens.

Fif-fifteen? [He's startled into actually stammering, as he tries to process that.] Um, give me a minute. [He sits down, working on controlling his anxiety and anger. They'd given him a child with a child. The castle's sickness made Bruce's stomach roil. He gets his anger under control and turns back to the journal.] Um, do you know where the clinic labs are? Could you meet me there?

It is no baby of the sort you might be thinking of. It will be a creature of some kind and quite possibly dangerous. If you insist on seeing it hatch take care to be prepared for anything.

[Nita seems relatively unperturbed by it. It's not as if it's an actual kid, after all, created in the normal way. It's more like...magic induced babysitting.]

[A literal second. Transport spells are one great advantage of being a wizard. Why walk when you don't have to? So she appears in the clinic lab with an audible 'pop.']

Oh really? [Dairine is somewhere between amused and disturbed. On one hand, her sister getting paired off with an older dude? Not cool, castle. On the other, watching her sister deal with a youngster could be hilarious.]

[That thought might give Bruce comfort, if it occurs to him, except he remembers last year and the little boy that was his son, all too briefly. He's not allowing himself to think of how the kids are created.]

Um, okay. I'm on my way there now.

[It takes Bruce a few minutes, between gathering the egg and a blanket, then walking. But, he arrives as soon as he can.]
