First Husk
[Paige is outside, trekking up a steep but short incline on the edge of the woodland that glistens from the snow and the decorations therein. Under her arm is a thick sheet of card and a black plastic bag. She is wrapped up against the elements, green duffle and black hat and mittens. Her huffing breath is caught by the journal, as are her crunching footfalls.]
Ah...Can't remember the last time Ah saw snow. Ah can't feel my ears!
[A sputter of laughter.]
Anyone else wanna suffer potential serious injury by sleddin'?

Yes! I do! Can I?

[Her tone is jovial and her words accompanied by the sound of rustling plastic.]
Get yo'self outside! Ah'm out over here.
[A pause while Paige props herself against a thick tree. A map appears, her location marked. ]
Ah picked a little one...To start.

[ She observes the map for a few moments, and heads out a window after pulling on some warmer clothes over her armor. There's a thump when she lands in the snow. ]
Are there bigger ones too then?
no subject
Ah spotted a couple of bigger ones further out.
[She pushes the card inside the plastic bag. The effect is very basic; there are no stones she won't get bruises from on the way down. But that was part of the fun.]
Your pick.
[She gestures beyond the tree line where just inside there is a small wooden sled and another budget sled yet to be made up, the cardboard wrapped loosely by the black plastic bag.

Hoooh...
[ Interesting. ]
I didn't know they could look like that.

Aw, spoilsport. Sledding ain't sledding unless you bash somethin', break somethin' or cut somethin' open.
[Paige has hardcore interpretations of what it meant to have a little jovial fun .]

[The rustle of plastic as Paige wrestles the cardboard into the bag, dropping it onto the snow-covered crest of the slope. There's a pause as Paige drops to the floor, wriggling into the compact snow that is so cold. A gasp rips through the journal, followed by another burst of laughter.]
Of course, you could just come out to play, and then Ah won't have to come knockin' on yo' door with my arm hanging off. Ah'll let you have the sturdy sled an' everythin'.

I may come outside, but I don't think I will be indulging in any sledding. Knowing my luck, I would be the one to injure myself.

[A pause as she considers how to sweeten the deal.]
What if you had a helmet?

[For a moment there is rustling, then. She can't help herself.]
What do you do for fun where you come from? Other'n play doctor that is.

[Simon isn't really sure how to reply. In his life before Serenity, there was a lot of studying- which he considered fun- and a lot of playing with his sister while his parents attended social events and, when he was older, attending social events himself. On Serenity, a lot of their time was spent evading the law.]
My friends and I would play cards and board games a lot. Our meals together could stretch on a long time, too, when all of us were present and got wrapped up in conversation and swapping stories. My girlfriend made wine as a hobby.

Re: dictated;
What'll it be? injury by plastic bag an' card, or actual sled? Ah've managed to get my hands on both. Gotta have variety.

[To be honest, it was initially just nice to feel the sun on her skin again, without the claggy, bitter air. But snow? Snow was a hundred times more like it.]
Ah'd encourage you to try the plastic bag later. Rougher ride but so worth it.

[Wade quickly bundles up in boots, a leather jacket, gloves, and a long powder blue scarf, and races out the place the other girl had marked on the map]

Yo' chariot awaits.
[She gestures to a, frankly, dodgy looking sled. As old as it was old fashioned.]

[dictated]
Or outside.
There's magic here; someone should get on that.

A little cold reminds you you're alive. A little frostbite didn't kill nobody.

Ah reckon it'd make a fine battlefield. In fact. Best. Game. ever. We need a basin of snow...get enough momentum an...like dodgems, you know?
[Dodgems. A distant memory to Paige.]
no subject
[Must be a future thing.]
Whatever those are, one would hope the battlefield would be less bloody.

[Repetition of the word probably won't help but she does it anyway.]
Like. Cars, electric cars that you sit in and just. .. ram at each other until you can't stop yo'teeth from shakin' in yo' mouth. You usually get 'em at fairgrounds.

They're meant to be used for fun?
