case #003 ☕ [dicated]/[action]

[If anyone walks into the kitchen, they will spot an unfamiliar teenager rifling through the kitchen cabinets. A coffee craft sits next to the sink filled with water, and the young brunette manages to knock a bag of coffee out of one of the cabinets, powdering it all across the counter.]

Oh crap.

[Her journal is open on the counter next to her, recording every frustrated grunt and mumble. Although residents of the castle might not recognize her, Kate Beckett is no stranger to the castle at all - even though she remembers it as a confused seventeen year old and not as a grown adult.]

Ugh, is there anyone around here that knows how to work the freaking coffee machine? I cannot do today without some caffeine.

[As it happens, even as a teenager, Kate still can't make a decent cup of coffee. She also happens to be experiencing her first temporary loss.]

Wow.

[So the castle had regressed her. Actually, it made sense that Kate didn't know anything about being a cop, but Alexis was confused as to how Kate knew her. It didn't follow - but when had the castle ever made sense?]

Well. Let me see if I can help you with the coffee maker.

[Alexis fiddled with the machine and tried to decide what to do next. Obviously this Kate didn't know anything about the police force or her dad. She needed to get some more information.]

So, how old are you? [She asked over her shoulder.]

Why wouldn't it make a difference here? Oh, you mean legality stuff?

[It dawned on Alexis then that if this Kate wasn't even 18 yet, then her mother was still alive. She turned to look at her, as if expecting to see an entirely different person.]

[Alexis faced the coffee maker and bit her lip, so that Kate wouldn't see. There was no way she was going to tell her about her mother.]

Yeah I'm lucky, I know...

[She managed to get the machine working again and stood back while the coffee percolated.]

So.. what kinds of things did you like to do in NYC?

[Jim Beckett didn't seem overbearing to Alex at all, but she knew a lot had changed after Johanna died.]

Oh, I did that too a few years ago. I wore a fuzzy bikini top and my dad flipped. And he's the one who's all worried about accuracy in costuming.

[Teenage Kate said 'shut the front door'. Alexis found her kind of adorable.]

It was really just that one year I went. Dad was going to be there because he and.... the.. detective that he works with were investigating a case there.

[Yes. That detective is you.]

Investigating a case. I think an actor got killed at the con. Or, they traced a murder suspect to the con. It involved Nebula 9, I think.

[Welp, she worked it out. Of course. Kate was incredibly smart.]

Yeah.. that's how you two met. I mean, not on that particular case, but someone was doing copycats of murders from my dad's books and he came in to consult. After that he kind of.. never left.

Yeah, murder mysteries. He's really popular. [Let's focus on that, because Alexis is definitely not telling her about her mother.] Sometimes he writes one off mystery novels but he's had a few series as well.

Yeah. He's famous back home. [Alexis smiles at her.] What kind of books do you like to read?

[Having this time with a teenage version of Kate is interesting. She wonders if this is her true personality, underneath all of the angst and heartache the Kate she knows suffers from. Admittedly, more of her personality was coming through lately thanks to her relationship with Alexis's father.]
