I asked a variant of this once, so asking the other way now. [ If he sounds bored, its not imaginary. That's why he's addressing the journal at all. ]

What do you consider monsters? Do your worlds have them, or are they considered figments of imagination?

I think monsters are something other than a surface thing. You can be a human and a complete monster. And something other than human and be perfectly pleasant.

Agreed. [ He wishes it would be otherwise, or perhaps more obvious it was a possibility, by his tone. ]

You wish it weren't that hard to identify the real monsters, right?

Yes. Of course, it could cause other problems. People who look for the characteristics, or who imagine them to make themselves right.

Some are merely figments. Some are the tangible embodiment of our greatest fears. Either way, their touch on us never really leaves.

Opinion of things that hold frightful, or distinctly other, appearances, yet do not fit into either category?

Monsters as in dragons and werewolves or just really terrible people?

In different ways. In some ways monsters is just a word. Just another way to call something bad or inhuman.

Using your own examples, a dragon is obviously falls under the second. Do they fall under the first?

I don't know. I can't say I've ever met a real dragon before. They're usually bad in our stories.

Do you think that's because of how they act, or simply because dragons aren't human, look scary and do things humans can barely imagine doing?

Probably a little of all of that. Most of that is looking scary. Monsters are supposed to be terrible. They're supposed to scare us. And then some of it is actions. They do terrible things sometimes. Like murder people or destroy things or eat people alive. Not that they're aren't people who are like that, but they're a bit more rare.

.. I suppose then my next question would is: Do you think all dragons would be like that, given you have just said some humans are like that?

That kind of assumes that dragons are like people, in that they're all different from each other. That's easier to assume with people. If I see a dragon, I'm still probably going to wonder if they want to eat me.

... Size of creatures tends to do that, to many.

Well, I don't know about the wasps...but those other things don't sound so monstrous. Your world must be amazing.

They are a little more so, when they spot you and attempt to attack or chase you off. Most people do not leave the city they are born in.

And do the people in your world consider them monsters, or are they just like...normal wildlife?

... It is a mix - they are both. They are everywhere, just as cats and dogs that aren't deep blue, but they also aren't likely to let you walk where you will. ... Violent wildlife?

Not hard to see why people might think of them as monsters, then.
