-72- Waiting For The Sun

[people are freaking out all over, she's heard maybe something about an evacuation, everything just seems wrong today... but Faye's got this totally under control.

Totally.

She's sitting on the front steps because she wants to, and not because being in the dark and spooky castle is freaking her out or anything. Just ignore the impressive pile of cigarette corpses at her feet, and the way she looks just a little bit haggard. Ignore the bandaid on her knee, too.

Today has been going just fine, okay? She's not nervous, and she's certainly not thinking of all the horrific things that tend to happen when Paradisa's sky goes dark and bad vibes fill the air. Not at all.]

Y'know... this no-sun thing really isn't so bad, once you get used to it. [she sounds convincing, doesn't she?] It's a change of pace. It's ...something new.

[she stamps out the nub of her latest cigarette just before the filter starts to burn, and then immediately fumbles to light a new one, because--hey, it's really goddamn dark out here.

...but, of course, now is when her lighter decides not to cooperate. The flick-flick-flick sound travels over the journal, followed closely by a high-strung growl] --Come on!

[and, of course, since their luck is just that good... the lighter manages to successfully produce a flame at the very last moment-- but Spike is already snatching it out of her hand]

--Hey! Give that back! I had it!

[It's already in his pocket, so good luck getting it back now.]

Come on, Spike... now what am I supposed to do?

[aside from go back to her lighter and resume the flick-flick-flick game, anyway]

[As annoyed as he is, he's still not walking away. Could just mean being annoyed is better than some of his alternatives.]

You'll think of something. [Then he taps his cigarette like it's the only thing keeping him sane right now. (And at least partially to rub it in.)]

[well, she only has one idea. And, unfortunately for Spike's sanity, that idea is to go back to fidgeting with her own lighter, trying to get it to work. Lighters sometimes work after you shake them, right?]


...So, what do you think it is?

[Sorry, he forgot what they were talking about.]

This. [a gesture around her, in the dark] What do you think it means?

[Shrugging.]

End of the world?

I'm serious.

That's not the worst that could happen.

[He thinks about it for a few seconds...]

All the alcohol disappears?

That's about the only thing I haven't already seen.

Just give it time. Sooner or later, it's gonna--

[and then something spooks her. She's not entirely sure what, but it's out the corner of her eye and has her suddenly falling quiet and looking off into the darkness at... nothing]

[Spike notices that, but only glances in whatever direction she's staring at before settling back on her. She's really wound tight.]

... I don't know if I'm that patient.

[luckyvalentine]

[she really is--in no small part because of the things that she's sure she saw the few times that she glanced quickly enough to almost catch it]

...I'm serious, Spike. Something weird is going on around here.

[--in this case, 'weird' means the same thing as scary and bad]

[That comment is almost too easy to mock, so he holds it back. It's never as fun when she's legitimately freaked out.]
