[Open your journals today, Paradisa, and you may just find this intruding all over your pages.]

[Alternatively, if you don't want to bother trying to decipher her attempt at handwriting on the bottom right of the page, there's a young girl kneeling in the middle of the floor in the lobby, journal resting on her lap. She's staring at it with a really puzzled expression, staring at all these question marks she made and hoping someone will get it.
Then again if someone tries writing back...well, she hadn't thought about that and it would be a pain since she's illiterate, but she heard voices, so she's hoping for voices in response...and yet a part of her is terrified of the idea of getting a response of any kind.]

'Help?'
dictated...kind've
[Oh, words. Nina tries her best to decipher them but in all honesty, H is the only letter she really gets from it. The rest had been her attempt at making something legible, which even she didn't understand.
Okay maybe the journal was a bad idea.]
Hnn!
Confused Written!
This is tricky. He'd draw something but A: his art isn't stellar and B: how does one pictionary 'what do you need help with?']
'? ? ?'
written
[He replies with a question mark of his own. If he had to guess, he'd say the scrawling in the corner looked like 'help', but he didn't really hear sounds to confirm it.]

Even if she could just direct him to the drawing she did earlier, Nina isn't sure how the journals work yet, so in response to the question mark she'll redraw this below it, and add a question mark in beside it.]

Drawn
Hopefully he'll understand this, but she'll add in a little crown onto the drawing of himself and put a question mark beside it.]
Drawn
He erases the stick figure of him in the door a moment later. Jade draws a little window up in the castle, then a stick figure of him in the window.]
Drawn
This time she'll draw in a little crown by itself, then add a question mark beside that.
If he's not the owner, then who is?]
Drawn
He doesn't know.]
Written
Despite this however, this book has been pretty helpful. Nina twists the shackle around her wrist until it shows the name written on it, then carefully attempts to copy it onto the journal.
The writing is legible, a lot more legible than her initial attempt at writing, but it's still pretty bad. She's obviously new to this.]
"N I N A" [Adding in a little smiley face beside her name, for good measure.]

'J A D E'

Home, now. [Or prison. They're pretty interchangeable, even if Maine has spent considerable amount of time in the actual prison.]
no subject
The voice she understands though, even if it's a little intimidating. His choice of words were comforting too, because had he said prison instead she might have had a little freakout. Finally having a home sounded nice.]
Unn!
[Yeah, have a cheerful little...noise or however it could be described.]
no subject
[Besides, who needed whole sentences when a single word or a well placed grunt would get the point across just as well?]
Name?
no subject
She can't read either though. :(
So the name means little to her. I mean she assumes it's a name for a name scenario, but she doesn't know how to pronounce that, so hearing it wouldn't make a difference.
She'll just put a little question mark beside his name, cause it's the only way she can think of conveying her confusion.]

ok
She takes a moment to reply, awkwardly holding the journal with both hands up in front of her, and staring at it for a good, long while...]
Um...uhnn!
[...okay, maybe this is going to be harder than she thought.]
no subject
Are you confused?
no subject
Nina. [It's still a little difficult to fully imagine who he's talking to]
Maine. [He means himself. He hopes the point gets across.] You need anything?
no subject
[Dang, she's not even in the castle, or maybe she could help. Rin just watches this in concern in the meantime.]

She'll doodle in a few different types of food, then put a question mark beside the drawing.]
no subject
Mmhmm!

[If she could apologize for being so difficult to communicate with, she really, really would.]

Kitchen. First floor. By the lobby.
no subject
My name's... Nick.
[He draws a round smiley face here, adds some spiky hair, and writes "Nick" underneath; if she really has as much trouble communicating as he's guessing she does, then, he assumes, a name like "Phoenix" is going to be too tough. He opts for skipping straight to his nickname instead.]
What's yours?
[And he draws a second smiley with no distinguishing features, and a question mark underneath.]
no subject
Hi. Don't worry, okay? No one here is going to do anything bad to you.
no subject
Hello.
no subject
So she's just gonna run off to find the kitchen.]
no subject
The name takes a second longer to write than it should have, because everytime she needs to write it, she has to check the shackle attached to her wrist and attempt to copy it.
The writing is messy, but legible, moreso than her initial attempts.]

And she finds the sight of Zelman to be pretty intimidating, her eyes widening making that readily apparent, so she sits up and backs away from him a little, pushing herself with her feet and still in a seated position.]
Hnnn..

Nina nods to herself, not that the other girl can see it...then attempts to let her know she understands.]
Mmmhmm!

Her clothing is also shoddy and dirtied, and it looks more like one of those patient's gowns someone in a hospital would wear, paper thin and worn with age, along with the rather large iron shackles on her left ankle and right wrist, but other than that she isn't wearing much else, even being barefoot.
Right now she's crouched in front of the open refrigerator, staring into it. She...isn't really sure what she can take. It isn't her food after all, even if that guy told her where the kitchen was.]

She eyes it for a moment, then kind've raises her gaze to look at him, but she stops at his neck. She can't being herself to look any higher, instead gently taking the offering from his hand and does a quick little bow, just to be polite.]

Hey, relax. I'm not going to eat you, kid.
no subject
[He pauses to consider how best to continue this conversation.]
Are you alone?
[He draws first a single stick figure, trying to match the hair she had added onto the smiley that represented her, and then, on the opposite page, he draws a group of stick figures, with the one representing her in the middle. Under each drawing, he adds a question mark.]
no subject
In any case she'll nod at his question, looking off to the side.]
Unn!

no subject
Her social phobias weren't nearly as bad as they used to be, thankfully.]
...
[Nina leans forward into a kneeling position, then stands up from that, holding her journal out in front of her to him. She'd done a drawing earlier to try and ask someone a question, and they'd understood what she meant, so hopefully this guy will too?]
Unnn?
no subject
It's called Paradisa. [he tilts his head a little.] Doesn't belong to anyone.
no subject
Can't talk. [Not a question, really, just an observation. He pointed at the food in her hand.] You gonna eat that?
no subject
[He draws two lines above the "lobby" she's drawn, hoping to imply more floors. On the second, he adds another line, sectioning off a "room," and draws his stick figure self there again.]
no subject
With a little arrow pointing to it.]
no subject
pause.]
Can you understand me?
