Hello. I was wondering if you've had any luck in pursuing your line of work during your stay in Paradisa.

[She... is more than certain this is a group that has had far more luck in using their talents in this place than the preceding group, so she will pause, tapping her pen for but a moment before writing.]

Is there any need for help covering ground? Not for you, per se, but for the greater good in general.



[Now that those filters are out of the way, she cannot help but muse in the journal.]

This place is the slap to the face for pretty much every skeptic, isn't it?

The impossible happens at every turn, who's about to pinpoint when it's all about to make any sense.

Not that I'm having trouble adjusting, it's just... [There's a pause, and perhaps a sigh, maybe a chuckle under her breath.] Hard to believe that there are a distinct lack of answers.

What is it they'd need to find, exactly? Insofar, all there is are environmental changes and broadcasted frustration.

retroactive filter from first gens, spies, snoops, villains, yadda yadda.

There's something back here they must be looking for.

And when the others go on expeditions, uncovering new locations, they're almost never happy with what we find. They would chase us out of the Dead Zone all the time if they could, I imagine.

yes! those jerks.

And we don't have the numbers to uncover leverage for ourselves? These countless expeditions, why not gear them toward finding real answers, rather than a nature hike?

[She realizes she's being hard on everyone. And she knows it wasn't going to be that easy.]

Or is it all just a shot in the dark?

[gevurah]

You'd be best asking whoever leads the expeditions now. I think one of the issue lies with the fact venturing out there blocks out all abilities of the residents. Someone who relies on their powers would have trouble out there.

[kalinda]

Noted. [Literally and figuratively. Sure is a thing, taking notes. Always taking notes.]

There has to be at least a handful of people without "powers"... Survival skills.

[gevurah]

There are, but you can never tell what's going to happen in the Dead Zone.

[kalinda]

That makes sense. Uncharted territory is always volatile, even with seasoned explorers.

[gevurah]

And this place has a revolving door. People come and go, often with memories tampered with. Anyone considered a seasoned explorer could come back a complete newbie.

[kalinda]

So the playing field is always changing, no matter what. [A breath.] Great.

[gevurah]

It's frustrating, I know.

[kalinda]

[A pause, as if to accept that. She'll dwell on it, before speaking again.]

How does anyone find solidarity here? Aside from the company, I suppose.

[gevurah]

I suppose... people already have something to do back home. Their own lives they want or need to get back to.

It keeps them going, at least. Most people agree finding an exit is top priority in this place.

[kalinda]

But you have people who have been here for years. When does that something give?

[gevurah]

[ She stops to think about that.

She's never given up here. Beaten herself up for weeks at a time? Sure. But she'll never stop soldiering on. ]

Should it?

[kalinda]

It shouldn't. Not at all.

[She's still skeptical about a lot of this. You can tell in her tone, even after all these talks, after witness all this nonsense...]

But that's not how people are, after so much time.

[gevurah]

Maybe after half the things they've been through, disappointment doesn't faze them as much anymore.

[kalinda]

Maybe. [This conversation sure has taken a darker tone. Kalinda pauses for another moment, attempting to muse on it all.]

It doesn't help when the place in question is supposed to have unhinged control of a person's mind.

[gevurah]
