Perhaps this is a long time coming, but I find myself in need of a few things. Since I try not to wish if I can help it, that means I'll be asking the general population for a bit of help and information.

I am in need of two things at the moment. A sword, preferably with a curved, one sided blade. The other is more common, a simple notebook. I think it would be best if it had a sturdy binding and blank pages.

I'm a bit low on funds at the moment, however, so I may need to find some employment to pay for these things.

However, I'm not without some skill. Perhaps I can trade knowledge for some goods? Though, I have not been too far into town yet, either. Do the shops there hire people regularly?

I suppose I must accept that I will be here longer than I anticipated.

Yeah, I try not to wish for stuff either. If you can't find anybody here, the guys in town have shops and stuff. But you'll either have to wish up money, or sometimes they'll barter with you.

The payment is what most concerns me. I did hear that there are some shops in town these types of things.

Technically no, it wasn't just a sword. Why do you ask?

Uh, 'cause word on the street is you can't replace your loss. Like ... I lost my knife, right? I couldn't wish one up, and it'd break if I tried to buy one. Had to settle for a dagger.

I see. My situation is complicated then. In part, it was a sword that was taken from me, but it goes much deeper than that. I would prefer not to speak of it here over the journal.

That may be so, but something about the process rubs me the wrong way. I don't trust it.

"Magic" [ oh god you can practically hear the airquotes ] is unreliable by its very nature, however. What could possibly go wrong with asking for a simple notebook?

Perhaps nothing would go wrong, but it's possible something might. The castle has already taken something from us without our will. What else can it take? I prefer not to find out.

What does it matter? If our stay is meant to be temporary in the first place, anything it takes from us can only be a mild inconvenience.

Your willingness to actually work for something is admirable, at least. The amount of freeloaders that exists is a travesty.

If you can spare it, I would consider myself in your debt. It's for a young man who needs a book to help document his memories. I think he's very confused without one.

It's not a problem, by any means. [Though, she cannot help but bank on a potential favor in the future-- not that she was expecting one!]

I wouldn't want to inconvenience you, so I can meet you anywhere you like.

Preferably somewhere inside the castle. Do you have a moment?

[She'll shuffle about, perhaps even open a drawer as she pulls one of her journals out. Yes! Blank. It'll work.]

I can probably find you the sword. I am skilled and knowledgeable of them, and have enough funds.

[He hesitates, since he wasn't really the kind to enjoy being given handouts. The notebook was one thing but...]

I will think of something, then, for you to repay me with. For now, though, worry not for it. I would feel better knowing someone was armed than be petty and worry over coin.

There might be a place in town that can see the journal. I could go look for one, if you like.

I think I'm about to meet someone in the lobby regarding the notebook, so I think that matter is settled for now.

Besides, I certainly wouldn't want you to go out of your way. I can always look there later, if I need to.
