12th Perscription ~ [Action/Dictated]

We're getting quite a few people admitted to the clinic with similar symptoms and it's starting to worry me. They all have the same odd wee bite-marks, and are in a coma. While we can maintain them, there's no way to wake them. So far, we have one of the Jades, not the colonel, Dr. Watson and Zelman Clock in the clinic, and I only get the feeling it's going to escalate.

I'd suggest putting out a castle-wide alert.

[Obviously, since Helen is the head of the Clinic, it should come from her.]

I'm also going to ask around, gather a wee bit more information, see if we can find out what's bloody doing this.

I'd like anyone who has experience in virology, toxicology and genetics, and isn't vital to the care of the patients, to help me. Whatever's causing this is obviously some sort of foreign parasite, and I've got no bloody clue where to begin...

Hello, I'm Dr. Carson Beckett. I'd just like to let you know that we're doing everything we can for your friends, but if you have any information relating to their current condition, please let myself, or another member of the clinic staff, know.

[Filters done, Carson begins to start his work, firstly with running his scanner over a few of the victims, noting down their vitals and any other potentially helpful information.]

[She's actually sitting at his desk, watching him scan them. She's been there all night, but she's not that tired. Thank you, Cruxis Crystal.]

Dr. Beckett... I don't know if it'll help, but I have a spell that cures most poisons and other things, like being turned to stone. I've tried it on them and it didn't work, but still...it's a start.

[Carson is scribbling down his notes from the scanner in Ancient. He'll translate them for the others once he gets them all collected.]

It's a start, it rules out the possibility of a quick fix by magic. [He looks up and smiles.] You tried, and I'm sure they're grateful for that.

Is there any type of poison or virus that your magic can't heal?

I can heal standard poisoning by monsters, and of course, being petrified by a Basilisk. Other things I can't, like Ozette Flu. That needs the nectar from a specific flower. Or...Chronic Angelus Crystallus Inofficium. That needs...a lot more that we even have here.

...But that's not what this is. [She would know. She had it.]

So we can at least rule out your world as the source.

[He sighs] That leaves dozens to investigate.

[He looks over the results from his scans.]

This isn't anything from my universe. If it was, the scanner would likely be able to detect it.

So it's something from some other universe. Is it some sort of animal that attacks people? [They looked like puncture wounds to her.]

I definately say that's a possibility.

[Carson moves to sit behind his desk, slumping in the chair.]

But without the animal in question, there's no way I can make a firm diagnosis.

[Martel looks over at him.] ...What if we catch it?

...It would help.

[It would help a lot.]

We need to be very bloody careful. If it can do that to a vampire...

...It can do that to a human. Or a half-elf. [Being an angel makes her heal easier, but there isn't much difference.]

The thing is, we might see it anyway. Its victims are here... what if it comes here? [They don't know what it does to its victims, if anything, after it bites them.]

[He didn't think of that.]

Maybe think about getting someone to protect the clinic. Just on the safe side.

I have a few offensive light spells, but they possibly wouldn't help much. [She doesn't know what this thing is.]

Do you know anybody...? I know a few people I could ask. [Yuan, for one.]

If you know people, that would no doubt be a great help.

I would clear this all with Dr. Magnus first.

Of course. I'm not even sure what's going to happen. Maybe we won't even need it.

[Conan enters the clinic late in the day, for once allowing his seriousness to show on his face.]

Good afternoon, Conan.

[Carson is sat at his desk, translating his notes from Ancient into something everyone can understand.]

...Please don't tell me you've been bitten too. [Concerned doctor is concerned.]

No, but I am investigating it.

I am aware of this, given that I've been in the clinic since before it occurred. [ She'd been ready to leave before the first one arrived. After that? She hadn't left, tending and checking to each as they came in ]

It would also be helpful if you used the correct names for patients, especially given that we do have two Doctor Watson's.

[ And Helen's seeing that second filter ]

I would also appreciate being informed or asked before you requisition my staff for other duties, particularly when they may already be occupied.

Well, I'm sorry, doctor, but I used my initiative to try and help these people as much as possible. And I thought it would have been plainly obvious as to which Dr. Watson was affected.

[A pause.]

And I do believe I asked staff members for help, not requisitioned.

Then perhaps you should see if your initiative crosses with anything that another may already be working on, to first coordinate information before running off half-cocked about this.

And given that both John and James Watson are medical doctors and clinic staff? I do not believe it to be plainly obvious. Specification would aide you in these situations.

Given that you did so without discussing it with another first - particularly myself, and that we have yet to discern exactly what it is that is causing this - it may not be parasitic without the results from a full spectrum of tests - acting without this information may be more dangerous than you have considered.

[ And she pauses for a brief moment, getting an update from other staff members ]

It isn't a parasite.

Aye, I've came to that conclusion as well, after reading the journal posts from the past few days.

I'm running tests myself. I wouldn't dare act without knowing exactly what we're dealing with here. I'm no stranger to alien-inflicted injuries.

Once I've translated the results from my scanner, I'll send copies out over the journal.

A conclusion which you apparently didn't have at the start of this? [ If he had she'd have appreciated him mentioning it; it would have saved any of this.

Although none of that answered her other concerns. And given that he had acted? Helen chose not to make comment on that, wanting the situation to calm a little given the matter at hand ]

Any results that you have I would prefer to know of straight away and in person, not over the journal.

I was still investigating at the time I made the initial announcement, it was the reason I was so open-ended in my request for help.

[A pause and a sigh. His next words are apologetic.] I was a wee bit hasty, aye, but I promise I wouldn't have made any presumptions or treatments without knowing all the facts. I'm sorry that I acted out of line.

And all my results will be made available. But it's not looking good. I'm not seeing anything recogniseable in the results I'm getting...

If this occurs again I would suggest double checking and coordinating with others beforehand.

[ Even with that her tone his no less harsh ] Do not allow it to occur again.

It may very well not be something from either of our worlds. [ She hasn't given a complete look at them or seen all available data. If it's something she's familiar with? She hasn't seen the key yet ]

Aye, it won't, doctor. I promise.

[A pause] That is looking more and more likely. It really is quite an enigma...

I'd say we need to get whatever's causing this in here. If it's venom, we'll need a sample from the host creature if we're going to have any hope at making an anti-venom.

[He sighs] Martel has several anti-poison spells, all which can be cast without harm to the patient if it doesn't work. She says that none of them work, either.

Measures are being put in place for that. James and Doctor House have started discussion on it.

Can she be certain of that? [ Perhaps in her own world but here that gives cause for concern, especially now that it has already been done ] I'd like you to look over the patients she tended to, double check on that. They may not harm others where she's from but there are some with different physiologies here, which may have affects that she couldn't account for.

Already doing so, doctor. From the few I've scanned so far, none are showing anything other than coma symptoms and an unknown substance in the bloodstream.

...There also seems to be a delay in the reaction-times. Zelman and Dr. Watson... The one bitten... Seemed to take some time to fall under the effects, but there have been some cases of only minutes.

Foreign parasite?

Or a pathogen, but likely a poison or venom. I'm not too sure as to what, and won't unless we can find the source...

Well... by the looks of it at least, it's a venomous bite. [he points to Zelman's wound] Swelling, obvious puncture wound, inflamed tissue around the site. [looks back at Carson] For a parasite... you don't think it, uh, deposited anything when it bit, do you?

If it is, I'd say that it isn't it's natural method of hunting. You're right, it does look more like venom than anything else.

[he nods, then looks back down at Zelman]

Have you thought about trying bloodwork or anything?

There have been quite a few tests ran by Dr. Magnus and the others. I'm giving my scanner a wee go, see if it can pick up anything...

It's not looking promising.

[he frowns, puts Zelman's chart down, and moves to the next patient to check their chart and vitals]

[He sighs, rubbing his face.]

And I have experience with alien bugs and poisons.

[He had to read a huge dossier on them before they left for Atlantis.]

First of all, Dr. Beckett, I would have allowed Dr. Magnus to make any announcements about this as a whole, as she is head of the clinic. Secondly, it is not a parasite, a look at the last days worth of journal entries, most notably those concerning Dr. Watson, the other Dr. Watson mind you, that the evidence points towards something carried by a bite, so an animal carried disease or toxin is most likely at this point in time, though a toxin is most likely considering the speed of it's effects.

I have already had this discussion with Dr. Magnus prior.

And, after reading the journal entries myself, I agree that it is likely to be a toxin. Especially with what you say about the speed.

...This means we definately need one of those creatures if we have any hope of making an anti-venom...

Very well then. [He wouldn't know that, he's just making sure. He's rather stressed after finding two friends of his in the clinic at this point.]

And I would say then that you and I and others able to, should discover a way to trap them, then. Unless you have a better idea as to whom could do this?

I'm afraid I haven't got the foggiest, doctor. This isn't matching anything I've seen before, here or in the Pegasus Galaxy.

Nor is it anything like what I have seen in my own version of the Earth. Though that is hardly surprising, as it may be something native to here or something native to another world. What we know in the past will be little help in that regard except in determining what it is.

Aye. It's a bloody engima.

We definately need to see one. I can probably work out an anti-venom if we can get one.

We could find an anti-venom if we can get one of these creatures. This is not a thing for any one of us to do by ourselves.
