[Hiccup sounds mildly panicked. Again. I sincerely hope no one is surprised.]

Uhh - I think I broke the computer Alan let me borrow.

[A pause.]

Odin. [It's spoken like a curse, and then, muttered:] I meant to filter that from him.

Okay, so - um. The screen keeps turning blue. Does anyone know how to fix this? Because, seriously, I'd appreciate it a lot.

[And anyone in the lobby may see him tinkering with said laptop, at a complete loss. When it's not bluescreening, it's filled with popups, because Hiccup of course is the only person in the castle who could infect his machine with spyware without ever connecting to a network.]

[And then, added later:]

[ Astrid isn't really an ordinary girl though, so she'd be entirely pleased to see Hiccup a bit over-eager to see her. Especially considering he'd been here so long without her. She's practically bouncing when she gets to her front door and she forces herself to stop, leaning against the wall waiting for him. ]

[Hiccup is a little out of breath when he finally arrives, lifting his hand to wave at her.]

Hey. You made it.

Of course I made it! Now we need to go outside but because I think you're about to die we can walk there. Slowly. Do you need to sit down before we start our journey down the stairs, Hiccup?

[ She reaches forward, brushing her hand against his arm before tugging on his wrist lightly. ]

-- wait.

Why are we going outside, again?

[He ducks his head and tries not to grin when she grabs his wrist, holding his spot where he stands and leaning in to peck a quick kiss against her cheek.

When he leans back, he's blushing, but his tone is completely neutral.]

What's going on outside?

A surprise.

[ Aw, Hiccup blush. Her hand drifts down just a bit so she can lace their fingers together instead, leaning in to give him a proper kiss on the lips. ]

Just trust me, you'll love it. Can we go now?

[Hey, Astrid, you're gonna have to hold on a second. Hiccup looks.. dazed, before he purses his lips and stares at her, squeezing her fingers.]

That - uh. The kissing thing. Is that normal?

[ Oh. ... Right. He was from before... It was still a bit hard to grasp-- memories she had, he didn't. Even if the time difference wasn't too much, it was still... weird. She couldn't even imagine if he had been any earlier! This was hard enough.

Astrid blinks at him, using her free hand to scratch the back of her neck. ]

Well normally you kiss back.

[Good job on actually making your boyfriend kind-of blush dreamily, Astrid. He shakes it off after a moment, though, laughing and tugging her wrist.]

We-elll.. I guess I could always try again.

Are you sure? I mean, we could always ease back into that after some time. It might be a little too weird for you.

[ Her eyes roll. ]

[He snorts very softly.]

You know, I'm pretty okay with jumping right into this. If you are.

[ She nudges his shoulder with her other hand-- it was almost a punch. Almost. ]

Maybe we should just stick to hand holding and pulling each others hair instead.

C'mon, you. Why don't you show me what you were talking about outside?

[If she'll walk slow enough to allow for his stupid, stupid fake leg.]

Not going to take the opportunity to plant one on me?

[ Of course she'll walk slow enough! Geez, she wants her quality hobbling Hiccup time okay. ]

Oh, believe me: it's not that I don't want to.

[It's surprisingly easy to fall into this cadence with her, and he squeezes her fingers.]

I just - you know, this is still really new to me. I don't want to run around kissing you like it doesn't mean anything. Or like I'm taking having you here for granted.

[...]

Jeez, I got sappy fast, huh.

Yeah, you did.

[ Astrid smiles, her fingers squeezing his in response. Makes it hard to be a big tough viking when you have sappy Hiccup for a boyfriend. ]

This whole... time thing is just so frustrating, you know? You were here without me for months while the same time I was back home with you or something I just-- You're not going to hurt my feelings or anything if you do take me for granted. I don't know what I would do if I was here without you and then you just showed up one day. It's a weird situation.

You'd do the same thing I did.

[Hiccup's answer comes easily - he doesn't have to think about it.]

You'd adapt. You'd-- make friends, and adjust, kind of like I did. Except probably better than I did, if we're gonna be honest here.

I don't think so. I'm a bit overwhelmed by just about everything, if it weren't for--

[ She stops talking for a beat. Almost spoiled her surprise. ]

I'm just afraid that I'll disappear on you, Hiccup. People keep talking about that sort of thing happening. One day you're here, and the next you're not. What if tomorrow I'm gone? You'd regret not kissing me just now, wouldn't you?

.. yeah, I kind of would.

[His hand tightens a little on hers.]

But I think we're safe for the next few hours, at least. Don't think people disappear when other people can see them.

[ If she was cheesy she'd say something along the lines of 'Then never let me out of your sight' but instead she just thought it for a quick moment instead.

She'll just change the topic of conversation instead. ]

You should stop hiding in your room unless you want me to start barging in all the time. It's really a hassle to walk allllll the way up here when we need to go alll the way down and outside right after.

Well, if I'd known we were going outside, I would have just met you there! You can't blame me for what I didn't know.

[But her earlier words have unsettled him a little bit, so he pauses in the hall to duck a brief kiss to her mouth.]

What are you showing me, anyway?

I didn't-- Okay, it was partially my fault for coming up here.

[ Oh! The kiss surprises her a little bit, so pardon her if she has an awkward giggle. ]

It's a surprise, Hiccup. I'm not going to ruin it right before we get there!

Okay, okay, fine.

[He smiles a little bit, though, head ducked.]

Did you see what I made for Toothless?

If I did then I don't remember what it was.

[ Because sometimes she has the observational skills of a rock. Especially in regards to things she doesn't understand. ]

Plus I've been a bit distracted, when we actually get outside you'll see why.

Okay, okay, I'm excited enough as it is! [He laughs quietly, shaking his head.] And it's this - mechanical tail thing. He doesn't need me to fly anymore.

Really? That's great! I'm sure he really appreciates being able to fly on his own again.
