¤ 36 - A Good Day

[Zuko woke up feeling different, today. He woke up feeling... good!

Rolling out of bed, he just couldn't help being drawn to the light streaming in through the window. Really, he forgets how picturesque this place can be, sometimes. Not today, though... today, he's going to make sure he enjoys and appreciates every minute! So, after spending some time breathing in the wonderful spring air on the balcony, he heads downstairs, pulling out his journal while he's on his way]

Wow, the weather really is beautiful outside today, isn't it? I'm so glad that it's finally spring.

...You know, I think I'm going to train outside today. Does anyone want to join me?

[but first-- breakfast! Wandering into the kitchen, he puts some water to boil on the stove. And, he makes sure to make it a very full kettle! If anyone happens to stop by, he will of course share some of his pretty awful tea with them. He's feeling generous today!]

[Maladict is often in the kitchen. After all, it's where the coffee is. So she'll just...stare at Zuko and wonder what the hell is wrong with him]

[looking over his shoulder as he's filling the kettle]

I'm just in a good mood, I guess.

[Oh dear Gods what is wrong with him?!!]

Why? Did you drink something?

[he laughs a little, like she made a joke]

I think it's the weather. Have you been outside yet? It's beautiful.

[ yeah, he didn't hear any of that creepfest over the journal, but he is currently walking into the kitchen. he pauses automatically and glares at zuko when he sees him, because it's pretty much a kneejerk thing. firebedner. rrrrgh.

but you know what-- ugh. whatever. he will just ignore him. see katara, he can be reasonable.

so yes, he just brushes past zuko without acknowledging him to get to the pantry. ]

[well, being brushed past certainly gets his attention... but he doesn't stick Jet with one of his usual glares. He does frown a little, and can't help but shoot him something of a suspicious glance, but he's pretty quick to catch himself. He can just imagine his uncle's voice, very clearly picturing what he would say in a situation like this.

Hanging onto a grudge in a place like this doesn't make any sense. Better to just get over it and move on with your life.

So... he nods a little greeting] Hey.

[jetset]

[ jet hears the greeting, but assumes that it's meant for someone else. a very small part of him is disappointed that zuko didn't attempt to start a fight with him, but, you know, whatever.

he roots around in the pantry. when he turns back around, he notices that there's actually no one else in the vicinity at the moment! there's a pause before he cocks a brow at zuko, giving him a 'you can't be talking to me' kind of look ]

[yep, looking right at you, buddy. And... well, he does pretty good at not taking offense at being ignored]

...That's okay. I know you're still pretty mad at me.

[fanstheflame]

[Gale is already in the kitchen, trying to figure out - you guessed it - the microwave. it looks simple enough, and he's thoroughly engrossed in reading the instructions on the back of the oatmeal box]

Maybe it would be easier if I just boiled the water and waited the whole five minutes.

[well! Zuko doesn't understand the microwave very well either, but he gets some of the basics and he's feeling very helpful today, so...]

Be careful, that thing can be a real pain to figure out.

Yeah? ... Maybe I'll just make it from scratch, then. [he fishes the bowl out and sets it back on the counter, going for the tea kettle]

It's not like I've got anywhere to go -- hey. [and then he notices who he's talking to] I know you. From the winter thing, right?

[it takes him a second--he was kind of blind with rage... and snow... at the time]

Oh... yeah. Thanks for helping me, by the way.

[catches the tailend of that when she's headed for the kitchen as well]

Train in what, exactly?

[like, who aside from the most hardcore of gardeners eat breakfast before they train?]

[well, when breakfast is tea and a biscuit or two, the answer is a very cheery firebender]

Sure. That would be nice.

You..... sound like you're in a really good mood?

[wandering in, bleary eyed and sort of stumbling towards the coffee machine]

Hey.

Good morning.

[a nod, and she reaches for the coffee grounds and..

Wait. Waitwaitwaitwaitwait.]

...Zuko? Did you just smile?

[waterbends]

[Katara visibly winces when she steps into the kitchen and sees Zuko, considering just turning on her heel and heading out. Instead, she takes a breath and shoots him a frown.]

I'm getting some breakfast and leaving. That's all.

[he glances over... and his shoulders sink a little bit]

I understand.

[waterbends]

Well? Aren't you going to say 'good' or 'I'm glad' or call me a stalker?

[She hurries over to the refrigerator.]
