second trial ރ mediation

[ Ten days. Ten days in which she's spoken to a few people. Ten days of realizing she isn't returning to Chicago.

She spent a few days thinking about the law or lack thereof at Paradisa. She thinks she has a solution, or at least an idea she can propose. Starting a firm takes work. It takes money. It takes resources. It also takes clients. She can't focus on the endgame. Alicia always stays in the moment.

Back home she was dealing with financial issues, an overbearing mother-in-law, trust issues which have transferred... But, she had a job to funnel her energy into.

She puts her pen to journal paper. ]

Hello. My name is Alicia Florrick. I've been informed that Paradisa doesn't have a set system of laws. [ Or, a firm. Or, practicing lawyers. She's not interested in establishing one. ] But, I wanted to offer my services for mediation. If there are those here with disputes they can't solve themselves, I'm open to helping both parties reach a sufficient settlement.

[ Hell, at this point she'd be a contract lawyer. But, all things in due time. This is simply her first immediate idea. ]

( kalinda )

[ right now, it's easier to make needless conversation then address real issues ]

I'm expecting a wide range of responses. I'm not expecting anyone to bite right off the bat. I think what matters is I put it out there. [ and then ] There were dancing lobsters in the lobby the other day.

( law filter )

From what I've gathered, practicing law hasn't panned out here yet. Residents are uninterested, skeptical. Suspicious. We should think about making a real attempt to change this.

[softly - any anger he held toward Yuan for abandoning and then suddenly disbanding the Patrol dissolved the moment he heard what else he'd had to deal with] Not corrupt. Just flawed, like the rest of us. The castle found a crack to worry at and pull until it widened enough to slip in and wound. I'd be amazed if anyone could lead with something like that going on for them.

And yes, there was - still is, really, but it's been emptied.

Ms. Florrick, to end

Yes, precisely. ... I'm sorry, I forget that not everyone's fond of speaking in metaphors. But ... he's been here quite a while, even longer than myself, and after so much time here ... the castle knew him enough to find one of his weaknesses. I can't ever completely confirm that the problems he's run into were brought against him deliberately by Paradisa itself, but from what I've seen in my time, I wouldn't put it past the place.

And ... yes and no. Physically, the prisoners were well-detained, but it was almost impossible for the concerned members of the populace to collectively agree what should be done about them.

Yes, precisely. And for how long, at that - especially since death isn't exactly permanent within these walls.

As for the system of law -- it has plenty of potential. The difficulty is, there are so many differing cultures that anything with even a remote chance of success would have to be almost ineffectually broad.

No, from what I've heard, that was simply coma-inducing venom. My other self was bitten, and he's right as rain.

We had an attempt at discussing and laying down some ground rules. If you want a sense of how well that went... it was the Patrol's swan song meeting. I can give you the minutes, if you'd like. It's entirely possible someone with a better head for it will have better luck than we did.

Yes - well, me from several centuries in the future.

I'll gather them and have them delivered as soon as possible, then. It may take some time, since a number are in the older journal. What room would you like them sent to?

[those minutes will get delivered to her room later in the afternoon. if the mun would like, a list of links can get PMed. :D]

Yes ... Ah, I should probably explain myself. First of all, I'm not human - I'm part of a race known as the Time Lords ...
