second trial ރ mediation

[ Ten days. Ten days in which she's spoken to a few people. Ten days of realizing she isn't returning to Chicago.

She spent a few days thinking about the law or lack thereof at Paradisa. She thinks she has a solution, or at least an idea she can propose. Starting a firm takes work. It takes money. It takes resources. It also takes clients. She can't focus on the endgame. Alicia always stays in the moment.

Back home she was dealing with financial issues, an overbearing mother-in-law, trust issues which have transferred... But, she had a job to funnel her energy into.

She puts her pen to journal paper. ]

Hello. My name is Alicia Florrick. I've been informed that Paradisa doesn't have a set system of laws. [ Or, a firm. Or, practicing lawyers. She's not interested in establishing one. ] But, I wanted to offer my services for mediation. If there are those here with disputes they can't solve themselves, I'm open to helping both parties reach a sufficient settlement.

[ Hell, at this point she'd be a contract lawyer. But, all things in due time. This is simply her first immediate idea. ]

( kalinda )

[ right now, it's easier to make needless conversation then address real issues ]

I'm expecting a wide range of responses. I'm not expecting anyone to bite right off the bat. I think what matters is I put it out there. [ and then ] There were dancing lobsters in the lobby the other day.

( law filter )

From what I've gathered, practicing law hasn't panned out here yet. Residents are uninterested, skeptical. Suspicious. We should think about making a real attempt to change this.

[She blinks... and then switches to simply talking instead.]

Sorry! I forget that some humans can't read our quirks very well.

Umm, well a legislacerator deals with the law, yes. But humans seem to have two different kinds: one that tells the judge what the person did wrong, and one that tries to defend them.

A legislacerator just tells the judge what they did wrong, mostly.

Nooo, we each have a different style! Like Friska makes sure her Bs are eights and stuff. Every troll is different.

[She giggles] The judge gives the sentence! The legislacerator just makes sure the judge knows the person is guilty.

[Another giggle] Her name is actually Vriska, but Friska sounds so cute, doesn't it?

Umm, Alternian law is not really my thing! That's Terezi's thing. But I am pretty sure that the trial is just to say you're guilty and issue a punishment. Trolls are a pretty violent race, after all!

Oh, but you don't have to worry. The trolls that are here in Purradisa are pretty tame. [She lowers her voice.] Friska can be kind of mean sometimes, but I think she is really a good person now.

Me, too! You should see when my moirail yells. That's why he's so lucky to have me around.

Yes. He's not here anymore, but I just know he'll be back soon. I just have to be patient, that's all.
