Ah, the life of a single parent! I do not suppose there are many ladies out there who would find an unwed father particularly appealing. No, no, I'll have to hang up my hat on midnight fun soon enough. But these are the choices we make, are they not? [He's not sure he really chose to go on a Pokemon adventure, but why split hairs?]

I must say she was much easier to keep an eye on as a human - even visually impaired! Haha.

It seems I can't even educate my new little ward - not in book smarts, at the very least. Thankfully I was never one for rigorous study.

[For those more inclined to encounter Yuuya in person (or birdson), he is doing his very best to sunbathe luxuriously with his new Budew on the castle grounds.

Lucky the Pokemon is so small and also not really mobile - anything larger would be running circles around Yuuya. Nevertheless, if natures were easily transferable, this Budew would be Naughty. Every time it gets up to go exploring, Yuuya leaves his sunbath to track it down, herding it back with a buffet of his wings.

As he ruffles himself out for another attempt at leisure and glorious sunshine, Yuuya closes his eyes and calls to the open book:]

No, not because of that - though maybe in other worlds, haha! [It's so weird, not being the advanced species...] I'm just your average bird.

[He looks at Maybe-Buddy the Budew, who is less than enthused about being around Pharos but even less enthused that Yuuya is keeping her in one place with his wing (:||||||||).] Because I wager to say that she would be alone without me, and I was given charge of her.

As far as I am aware, average birds do not typically talk quite so freely or openly. I once knew a talking bird named Tobias, and he was very reluctant to let people know he was a bird whenever he spoke over the journals - although he was actually a boy, so perhaps that caused his reluctance. [Tilting his head a little bit to look at the Budew, who indeed does not look very pleased with this whole situation.]

...Then if someone would be alone without you, that makes them your family?

I would never censor myself in such a manner! Everybirdie so far as been very accommodating and there is no need for silence.

Hm? Ah, no. Not in so many steps! But I have chosen to adopt her, all the same. I believe when humans still kept birds as pets they would sometimes refer to them as members of their family.

I much prefer that she is called my family than my pet.

I have always heard it said that there are two types of families, those into which we are born and those we choose, and that the two are not always the same. I do care for her, also. It was only joking, the bit about it being a burden.

[Yuuya is starting to get the feeling he might have to explain 'caring for' to this kid as well, though. The thing about Dr. Iwamine was just a joke, but this is starting to sound like one of his inquiries.]

In the end I suppose it's all semantics. Word play is a bother no matter how long your species has been verbal, I wager, but!

I only meant that if you care very strongly for someone, regardless of blood, and would die for them ... is it such a stretch to call them your own family?

I have already been taught quite a bit in my time here - I do not believe I have learned nearly as much as I can yet. [Though the comment about him being young does make him laugh a bit.]

I must admit, I have become rather fond of mysteries... or more accurately, learning the answers to them.
