I was wondering if I could ask someone to come and have a look at some research of mine. A fresh pair of eyes wouldn't go amiss, especially around here.

Carson just kinda stares at it for a minute.]

Well, that's bloody charming.

Of course. What research are you doing, if i might ask?

Continuing something I didn't finish before leaving home. It's a gene therapy.

Gene therapy?

[atadiscoverer]

Aye. Genes are what makes us who we are. We've managed to develop a slight control over these genes where I'm from. We can manipulate them a tiny bit.

Could that not... turn out badly, for some, if used incorrectly?

[atadiscoverer]

It could. It's always risky, but I try to make sure that I do all my research beforehand. Minimise the risks.

[peacockherald]

I mean if someone with bad intentions got ahold of such workings.

[atadiscoverer]

Some people have. Don't worry, there's only one person in the castle who can read my research, and I trust him with my life.

[He smiles.] Of course, I translate it for people who help, but those copies are destroyed soon after.

_{[He nodded at the other, glad he was taking precautions. He dealt with dark magicians to often not to be cautious.]}

That is good. I am glad, though, that you use it to try and help people.

_{[He chuckles.]}

You might make a Herald.

Science should be used to help better society. Human and other life needs to benefit from it.

[He's a man of strong convictions. That is something he believes in strongly..]

And if you need magic to become a Herald, that's something I'm in short supply of.

Haha, no, actually. I am only gifted with magic. You need a Gift, usually, but those can be rather mundane to be honest. Sometimes they are hardly present at all. What counts is the man or woman with the Gift, no matter how strong.

Well, I wouldn't say that I'm gifted in any way.

[Because Carson is a humble man.]

Heh, everyone who becomes a Herald, at first, thinks that. Sometimes they do no realize their Gift till it is pointed out it has been what has cause such commotion in their life till now.

Well, I wouldn't say it's caused a commotion in my life.

[He smiles lightly.] I'm grateful. I've been able to do things no-one else would have dreamed.

I am glad that your world has someone like you then.

I'm nothing compared to the rest of the universe, I just try my best.

Probably some form of lactate addiction. I've never seen someone threaten over it.

Aye, but it's still going a wee bit far.
