So, I woke up this morning to find all my stuff cleaned up and arranged and put away. Since there's no one else who could've would've done that but you, I have questions: 1. Why? 2. When? 3.
[Opens the wine bottle, and pours a glass for them both. He sips.]
...The proverbial Red String of Fate. Coincidentally, I just happened to think of it...Far be it from me to believe in such hogwash, but it is as though our friendship and our rivalry were...destined, somehow.
[sips again.]
...It would explain why I could never quit get rid of you.
[Sipping wine isn't something Phoenix has ever really been a fan of; he takes a few gulps of it instead, then balances it on the windowsill next to his leg.
["Red string of fate isn't exactly the most original idea either, you know." He shrugs and pours himself another glass, which he also gulps. "But it is a nice thought, I admit."]
He stretches a hand out to let a few snowflakes fall and melt on his skin, and then leans out a bit with his tongue stuck out, trying to catch them on his tongue instead.]
[He waves a hand as though he's swatting away the warning. He's definitely not drunk, but he's just tipsy enough to feel like being silly, and he leans out a little more, gripping the windowsill with one hand and stretching the other out into the falling snow once more. The nearly-finished glass of wine and the tablet sit forgotten underneath the sill; right now he's fully engrossed in being ridiculous for no good reason.]
[...And at that, he doesn't notice that Phoenix knocked the fateful wine glass from the windowsill... He latches onto his friend with both hands now, struggling to get him back inside.]
Get down at once!
[...And at that, he then slips on Phoenix's glass, lunging him forcefully forward.]
[For a split-second, he doesn't realize that he's suddenly not holding onto anything anymore; he makes a little strangled gasping noise and tries, unsuccessfully, to twist around and somehow stop himself from falling.
Unfortunately this just means that he's in the prime position to smack the back of his head roughly on a jutting tree limb on his way to the ground, and so he is (perhaps thankfully) quite unconscious already by the time he hits the ground below.]
[It happened all too fast. And before he even realized that he had been struggling to hold onto Wright to prevent his fall, one thing struck painfully clear:
...There was naught but a shred of Phoenix's shirt in his right hand.]
WRIGHT!!
[At that very moment, his heart may have well been in his trousers. He ran. He could not run fast enough. It was a traumatic sight he knew would be unforgivingly burned into his memory forever. He saw it all. The fall. The sickening 'thud' of Wright's head on that tree limb, and the way his body flipped like a lifeless ragdoll when he impacted the tree. He raced the cruel minute and a half down the castle's elegant staircases, past bewildered residents, through ornate doors...Hell, he would have nearly taken the elevator for the first time in over 15 years had he known it to not take longer. He bolted through the castle gateway, towards the back of the castle, and the offending tree caught his eye before turning his gaze downward.
...His friend lay there...lifeless.]
...N-No...
[He had never known such fear since the day his own father died. And now, he feels that once again, he might be responsible for another loss in his life by his hand. He shakily trudged towards the body...the majority of it obscured by the snow. Upon approaching it, he noticed the snow reddened by blood around the head-area. Tears stung his eyes mercilessly, and he verbalized the only thing he could at the moment...]
[He removes his jacket, places it over the body and clutches the still form in his arms to provide the other warmth, as he reaches for the journal in his pocket, and frantically calls out to the one friend he felt he could turn to in such a situation.]
