Seems like the castle's been busy, given that I have two things now that I didn't have when I went to bed. I'm not the only one with a new book, right? A new book that seems to be just like the old one. I didn't know it was full, or could be since it had been filling up for years.

And then there's new thing number two. I'm trying to figure out if they're trying to torment us or if it's supposed to be nice.

[ Because something from home? Could go either way. And hers... was a reminder of something she didn't have? ]

One more thing we'll never know.

A fresh start for the year? Even if it's a bit late, but then no one's mentioned it for other years.

I'mmmmmm not sure I'm cool with whatever the castle thinks of as a fresh start. If anything, it probably just wants to get rid of--

Ooh ooh ooh, I know! What if someone found out something really important about the castle, something big, something huge, something going home kind of huge, and then they wrote it in the journal and... oh, and then they went home, so the castle took away all the old journals to make sure no one else can find out!!

Um, I'm not too sure on that. People come and go all the time, so it'd be hard to tell... I don't think anyone I know has gone home recently, but even I don't know everyone around here. Working on it, though.

New year new census? I was going to do one to figure out stuff people liked after the last one I did, but it's one way for the new people to introduce themselves too?

I've seen them before but I've never used them.

I got stuff from my brothers and sisters. The stuff they gave me for o- my birthday when I last saw them, actually. It's really nice, to have something from home. Even if the something isn't very big.

What did they get you?

[ ticking off on her fingers. ] A certificate for a tattoo, a bunch of magazines, homemade fudge, and a really cool and really weird necklace. I didn't get the Gasman's present, because his was fireworks, and I guess it's not the same if it comes wrapped in a box.

That's still a lot of cool stuff.

When's your birthday?

My brother and sisters are cool people.

Theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee [ excuse her while she takes a completely non-suspicious moment to choose a nice day ] 17th of February! When's yours? We should have parties, that would be pretty cool.

Oh you can bet I'll be throwing you one. Mine's in June.

[ now excuse her while she basks in the glow of knowing someone who would actually want to throw her a party. ]

I'll throw you one too! When exactly is your birthday? Parties that friends throw for you are different from the ones that your parents do, and better in their own way, I bet.
