052 Wedding Bells
[It's a beautiful day for a wedding, isn't it?
Everything's been so carefully arranged (no easy feat when the happy couple had spent nearly a week reenacting fairy tales) and everyone's ready for the happy day.
Outside in the garden an archway had been set up with rows of white chairs for everyone in attendance. K9 was the most polite ring bearer there ever was, responding with a very cheerful "Affirmative" when asked if he had the rings before extending them on his eye probe. The Doctor and River finally get to say their 'I Do's and share their first kiss as husband and wife. Well... husband and wife after a proper wedding without the universe collapsing and... oh nevermind.
The ceremony goes off without a hitch (to everyone's surprise) and everyone is invited back to the ballroom in the castle for the reception. The ballroom itself has been decorated for the event with flowers, music, food, a bar and plenty of tables for all the guests. And, on their own table, are the beautiful cakes made by Peeta just for the occasion.
Eleven has done his best to make sure no one who may cause harm to himself, River, or any of their closest friends, will be able to get into the room so everyone could relax and not worry about a single thing. Now is a time for dear friends, love... and perhaps a little mischief. It is the Doctor's wedding, after all]

So now she's sort of... hovering, and feeling slightly uncomfortable about the need she feels to hover at all, and telling herself that much, much weirder things have happened to her than her baby daughter (who she hasn't even given birth to yet) getting married to her childhood imaginary friend. It's working. Sort of]

[er. What do you say to the man who once stole your fiancee and is now marrying your daughter? The Lone Centurion is not prepared for this. So have a Rory come sidling up next to you, Doctor, looking about as awkward as can be, and very stiff and uncomfortable in his suit. So, not too much unlike his own wedding day, then]

he's felt odd about this for quite a while, but he realizes as he sits through the ceremony that it's a good sort of odd. that he's glad that he gets this kind of happiness, so far ahead in his future ... especially after everything that he knows he'll live through in the interim.]

Speeches

and he ended up with six hand-written pages, which he's now pulling out of his jacket and unrolling somewhat awkwardly. they're crumpled, and the edges are frayed where he tore them out of the notebook, but a speech is a speech. and he has nothing to smooth it out on. oops. he thought there'd be a podium. so far, so awful, Mark, best job]
I, uh.
[he clears his throat, pushes his glasses up on his nose, and tries not to feel every single pair of eyes that's on him. he squints down at the page, and his words swim. it occurs to him, not for the first time, that his handwriting sucks. and his regular writing does, too.]
I just realized that I wrote six pages of trite crap, so hold on a second while I throw it in the punch bowl.
[he wanders over to it, and indeed, in it goes. and his glasses come off, and he wanders back over to the mic]
Normally, when you guys hear from me, it's because I've got my hair on end about somethin', or I'm telling you what's going on. Today, you're hearing from me because someone asked me to talk. Now, to realize why this is kind of a big deal ... Usually, I only talk when I want to, it's my call. For me to stand here and open my big fat mouth on someone else's behalf, it's pretty huge. For me. But this isn't about me, it's about the guy who asked me to do it ... and the woman he just married. I -- I'm gonna level with you all, I don't really know River well. I've only talked to her once or twice. But any friend of the Doc's is a friend of mine, for a really simple reason: everyone he meets is special. And it's not just because they really are, it's 'cuz he makes them remember it. He's got this crazy ability to stand up and do whatever he wants, whatever he thinks is right ... and still manage to have so many people sitting here today who actually like him and don't wanna punch him in the face.
And for him to find someone - here, at home, anywhere - who can do the same thing for him, and remind him just how special HE is ... [he pauses to glance over his shoulder at Eleven and River and smile, sheepishly]
I dunno, I think that's about the best thing that could happen in a place like this.
... So ... there you have it, folks. [he clears his throat as the awkwardness comes rushing back in] ... Sorry about the punch, but honestly, the lemonade tap's better.

Truthfully, the Master is more upset at the Doctor keeping this from him, than the act itself. Marrying one of his companions is only a slightly larger betrayal than traveling with them. So far as the Master knows, River Song is human or mostly so, with a human lifespan. Eventually, she will wither and die...and the Master will still be here, still be the Doctor's best enemy and oldest friend. She is no threat, merely another in a long line of inconveniences.
The Master steps further into the room. It won't do to seem at all affected. He is not some snivelling romantic, with his heart on his sleeve. Oh, no. Any pain he feels, and even to himself he barely admits to any, is buried deep and far away from prying eyes. The Master decides the only revenge he can have now is to be sociable and unconcerned. He will even wish the Doctor well, if given the opportunity.]
