[Vicious is moving through the castle as he opens the journal. As such a good deal of the general commotion comes through as background noise as he walks]

It seems the castle has very low standards for parenting.

[But it must have some, since he's been left mercilessly alone.]

[This has been a bit of time in coming, but he had a few last things to do. It's hard to get the castle to cough up the sword parts you need when you're actively looking to stab someone with it, after all.]

You've gotten my attention. I hope you still want it.

I guess you could call it a temporary relapse.

Is there anything else of mine you'd like to take your anger out on? I'd be happy to accommodate.

[Casual, like they're discussing the weather.]

[There's the slightest pause. Nothing too telling.]

Funny how I still feel empty handed. [--like this direction doesn't even bother him.]

[And for a second, it could almost be a friendly conversation between old friends. But of course, it's not.]

[Sounds familiar. Still strange to hear it coming from Vicious.]

You'd think so.

Do you want to die so badly?

[He is dead. The both of them are, and so is she. Not really his favorite subject, but that isn't going to change anything.]

There's easier ways to do that.

[Which brings them to the heart of it, really.]

What do you want?

[Because Vicious has no intention of repeating the past. He has other things he'd vastly prefer doing over dying again.]

[Maybe there is one thing that he believed he could change.]

I thought you had it all figured out.

Apparently, I was wrong.

[This may be the first time he hasn't felt like Vicious isn't reading him like a book. So something came out of that after all.]

I'm a complicated guy.

I find that hard to believe.

Because you're forcing my hand.

[Spike should watch what he says, but that just reminds him of how many times Vicious has gone to lengths to get his attention. Faye can attest to that.

Better to play it like a guy who has nothing to lose.]

What's keeping you?

Believe it or not, I have very little interest in what you do here.

[To a point, at least, that was even true.]

But it seems you can't say the same.

[Yeah, right. Although that could explain why he hasn't put it all together yet.

Like Spike cares either way.]

We all get bored eventually.

Something that doesn't require involving yourself in someone else's business.
