[there is a pretty blonde girl lounging on the couch in the lobby, long ponytail draped over one of the arms of the couch. she's got a rather sketchy magazine in her hands and she's flipping through it boredly. the journal is lying carelessly open by her feet on the other end of the couch, so it picks up when she makes a comment]

Honestly, once you've read through a couple of these, it's kind of like you've read through them all.

[sighs, and flips a few more pages ...]

"Her hand being on top of his may signify some kind of power struggle in their relationship." ... What? [a small laugh] That's stupid. They're reading way too much into it ...

I guess that's a good way to put it. Most everyone can understand the basic stuff that plagues everyone. Love, war, that kind of stuff.

[a bit of a scoff] Yeah, definitely elsewhere. But at least there's no, you know, full scale wars or anything going on here.

A welcome change for many of us.

Yeah, no kidding. But it also means a lot of people don't know what to do with themselves ... all the warriors who do nothing but fight, and all.

Well, it is never too late to learn new skills.

That's what I say! But most of them are just like, "Point. Grunt. Polish sword."

[She laughs again]

Among my people, the greatest of warriors are oft also masters of lore and song, smiths, or healers. It is nigh unheard of for one to be skilled only in combat.

Really? That's kind of cool, actually. Where I come from, we work in teams of three warriors, and one of them is usually required to know healing and other medic stuff, but -- that's about it.

And what of times of peace? How do these warriors occupy their time then?

[ino]

Even when it's peaceful, we still have missions and stuff. Like, being bodyguards and gathering information from enemies and all that.

As for my teammates, one of them watches clouds and plays shogi, and the other one eats. A lot.

Ah- you are a warrior yourself, then? [She really should stop being surprised.]

Yeah. My whole family is.

How astounding. [This is a new concept for her, actually.]

[LMAO. it's ... really common where she comes from, so she's just squinting at the page. is galadriel even capable of sarcasm ...]

[She is perfectly capable of sarcasm, thank you. But...she meant that.]

Such things are often passed from father to son in my world, but I have never heard of an entire family skilled in combat.

[Gender roles, mostly.]

Well, my dad did teach me ... but there are a ton of girl warriors in my world. I always hear there's a lot of places that don't let girls fight though.

Elves are generally more permissive than Men in my world; women may take up arms, though only at great need. To my knowledge, there is only one living elf woman who has seen battle.

One, ever? Jeez, men are so annoying sometimes ...

One living. There have been others, though they are few.

That still sucks. If a girl wants to protect her family, or her friends, or her country, I don't see what the big deal is.
