paradisa | thirty-eighth phase [ dictated / written ]

[ That morning sees Kitty in the kitchen with a tub of ice cream. Yes, she's having ice cream for breakfast, as after being a toy for a month she wants something good, and raspberry ice cream is that.

She's got her journal open beside her and, with her eating, is writting in it. Hey guys ]

Toys can be fun, I loved mine when I was a kid. My favourite was this stuffed rabbit that I had, which I kind of miss, just in sentimental ways. But it was nice just having it and being able to do stuff, especially if people were busy and you had to play alone.

[ Always sad ]

Being a toy is pretty weird though, not that I've ever wondered what it was like. At least nothing really happened? You hear some pretty awful toy stories some times, like dogs eating them or... stuff. But I'm not broken, and I'm definitely in one piece. And no longer a toy, which I like.

So did anyone have a favourite toy?

Oh, and has anyone seen a lost-looking Mareep? I think she's wandered off with me being gone. She's got a pink ribbon around her neck and answers to Sarah.

We should go shopping. And are you guys okay?

Also there's a lot of ice cream in the kitchen and I don't think I can eat it all.

Had a Stretch Ollie when I was a boy that I can remember. Think my folks threw him out after I moved away though. Used to stretch him out and tie him across my back, Yoda-style, with his head peekin' over my shoulder. Mum used to hate it when I did that, though. Think that's what I kept doing it, to be honest.

At least you had fun, though.

I did. One of the few honest bits of fun I had as a kid, before my parents took off for god-knows-where, and my chest went Hiroshima.

I'm afraid I missed your toyhood. Would've liked to have seen that, honestly. Lemme guess....you were an action figure?

It's probably better you missed it, it wasn't that great. But yeah, I was.

[Danny walks into the kitchen in search of breakfast. He doesn't pay much attention to anyone else around as he heads straight for the refrigerator.]

[ Kitty's finishing up writing in the journal when Danny walks in and-

Frown. She hasn't seen him in a while, but- ]

Danny?

[ Hadn't he left? She didn't remember him returning ]

....You know me?

Yeah, we met a while ago. You don't remember? [ Frown frown ]

Far as I remember I've only been here for a month. But you're not the first one I've met here who knew me.

[He looks at her warily for a second, wondering if she knew what he was. Ray had known.]

Yeah, people that leave generally don't remember being here when they come back.

This happens often?

It can do. I don't know many that have come back, though.

[He nods, and changes the conversation to the part he as really interested in.]

So... how much do you know about me?

Not a lot? We didn't really know each other that much.

That's a relief.

[He freezes.]

I could do with some shopping, why the hell not?

I'm doing okay, how've you been?

There's definitely worse things we could do than have fun.

I've been a toy. [ There's no theme what ] You know those little superhero action figure things? [ Yup ]

Oh yeah, totally.

You were an action figure [she laughs] Wow, that's not the worst thing I've heard about being turned into but it's definitely one of the more unique ones. Could you, like, see and hear everything that was happening?

Yeah, I've been a cat and an action figure, I think I preferred being a cat. [ She did have fun meeting you, then ]

And yeah. Each day I just magically moved to another part of the castle, sometimes people played with me, but not always.

Seriously? So you remember people playing with you? That's so fucked up.

Yep. I'm just glad that no one did dangerous playing.

What, like strap you to a rocket or some shit like that?

I hadn't thought of those, so let's say yeah.

[She laughs] Well now that you're back among the life-size when do you want to do this thing?

Maybe start with shopping and see what happens?

Sounds like a plan. Where do you want to meet?

The little cafe in town? They do some really nice cupcakes.

That sounds perfect. Meet you there?

Sounds great. I'll be like twenty minutes or something.
