[It's a bit late to be in the kitchen, really. But Mistress is a somewhat nocturnal creature (the night time is the best time for large and elaborate parties, after all), and she gets a little bored when the lobby calms down in the evening.

So tonight, she's decided to explore the kitchen. And though she's from medieval times, it's not the microwave or the refrigerator that's caught her eye. Oh no.]

What are all these foods, exactly? So many of them, in so many layers of wrapping.

[You see, Mistress is used to less-processed food, served with goblets of wine and mead. More modern foods have piqued her curiosity! She's currently sitting on the counter in the kitchen, journal perched in her lap.

Every single piece of processed cheese in the refrigerator has been unwrapped and laid out methodically. Ding-Dongs and Swiss Rolls have been stacked into thoughtful pyramids, with swords stuck through them. There's a large and explicit painting on the floor, done entirely in condiments (mayonnaise and a pickle have been put to particularly good use). Potato chips seem to have been of particular interest, as Mistress has opened and tried every flavor she found in the cupboards.

There are some greasy streaks in the journal as she wipes her hands.]

Are things not made fresh here? Everything seems to be in its own little bag and stored. And who created this barbeque potato chip? I need to know.

Yeah. Inverted all my powers, made me stick by their pointless constraining rules, and I had a list of Charges I had to help and guide.

Help and guide, as in...? [She's hoping the answer has to do with manual stimulation, but she feels like she's going to be disappointed.]

The normal way. Though it was more like they purposfully got in trouble.

But why would you mind, if you're already trying to be "good"?

Well, there's helping people out, and there's being forced to help them out.

So... it's more of an opportunistic standpoint on "doing good".

Well, doing good usually comes with a sense of achievement, or so I'm told.

When I was forced to do good, I was just annoyed.

[themistress]

Doesn't doing bad come with the same feeling? Or... well, I guess "bad" is subjective, isn't it?

Murdering innocents, regardless of the subject, is generally considered "bad". And the jury's still out on that. I'll get back to you.

Unless you're slaughtering infants, chances of them being "innocent" are slim to none.

Humans are an ambiguity, unfortunately. They're all innocents unless proven to be evil

And who, exactly, is judging?

In my world? The Elders, mainly. General human behaviour is not considered enough to tip the balance of the scales, but if a human gets too good or too evil something has to be done.

How can one be "too good"?

By fighting for the Greater Good, vanquishing evil, have the right type of destiny. If that's the case, the demons and Darklighters go out to make sure they can't tip the balance away, usually by killing them.

I fail to understand how that makes any sense.

It makes sense in my world, trust me. Alignment is everything.

It's very complicated to outsiders. Maybe I should write a book about it.

So... you kill humans who are "too good" because it will throw the universe out of balance or something. But you completely abandoning the evil I have to assume you were meant for, being a demon and all, will somehow not send things off-kilter?

Ah, no, sorry. We kill humans who are destined to be good to tip the balance in evil's favour.

[themistress]

Then why would you also kill humans who are "too evil", as you said earlier?

[demontobeloved]

I didn't say we killed them. We try to recruit them, turn them into warlocks or lower-level demons.

The good guys try to restore their neutrality before we get to them.

[themistress]

And the people in charge of you just let you bandy about with this new-found attitude?

[Because... as an arguably evil ruler, she'd have chopped his head off.]

Well, no. The Source is pretty pissed off that I vanquished the Triad.

It kinda helps that I'm on sort-of good terms with one of the strongest forces of Good in my world.

[themistress]

[That's a lot of words that don't mean anything to people outside of his world.]

And the forces of good are more powerful than the forces of evil?
