[And in the middle of the night, there's a loud gasping breath of air as a body moves from a bed.]

Nick-- [A breath. Wasn't she just sitting in a chair? With a gun? Just how long was she out?

A pause. A long pause.

And soon there would be the cocking of a gun, footsteps moving across her floor, and a door opening. Minutes would pass before Kalinda finds herself sitting on her bed, glaring down at the open journal at her side.

In an annoyed, tired, and subtly frustrated tone masked in neutrality, she'll continue the accidental dictation with full intention.]

And here I thought I was home.

The Once-ler? Is that supposed to be like The Rock?

It's the title of a professional wrestler-- you could say that it's his stage name.

Oh. Yeah, no. I'm not a professional wrestler. [He would be snapped like a twig] The Once-ler is my actual name.

Are you sure you're not just a masked wrestler who shuts himself away if only to seal up the mystery of your persona?

Pretty sure. Unless I've been up to some really weird sleepwalking I never knew about.

I'd think you'd be the kind of person to be far more careful than that.

You have to be careful if you're going to isolate yourself from other people. [Speaking from experience, perhaps?]

Don't get me wrong; I think it's more than acceptable for someone to be as private as they want to be. I'm not exactly chiding you for the isolation, nor do I intend on "breaking you" from it... but you have to admit that tends to not go hand in hand with an outgoing conversationalist.

[A beat.] Unless you're a radio personality, I guess.

Or a very enigmatic inventor. [Once-ler you are not enigmatic, stop that]

Have you invented anything since your arrival?

Well, I made a whole lot of booby traps to make my room safe from intruders.

Have you seen some of the people in this place? Paranoia is healthy.

But the castle seems to shuffle us all around to begin with, so I'm, not sure what exactly someone can do to avoid everything.

I've managed to stay un-shuffled for now. Hey. maybe I've even cracked the way to avoid it. Has anyone else ever just stayed in their room before?

Not that I know of, and I've tried my best to be thorough with the journals.

If only I could find full immunity for myself as far as castle tricks are concerned-- but I doubt I'd be able to handle keeping myself a shut in.

I guess it takes a certain type of person to do it. [Not that he's that sort of person, but that's besides the point. He can LEARN]

I'm pretty sure that's an impossibility at this point.

I can live with that. My grand plan was just to keep away from society in general before I was dragged to this place.
