[And in the middle of the night, there's a loud gasping breath of air as a body moves from a bed.]

Nick-- [A breath. Wasn't she just sitting in a chair? With a gun? Just how long was she out?

A pause. A long pause.

And soon there would be the cocking of a gun, footsteps moving across her floor, and a door opening. Minutes would pass before Kalinda finds herself sitting on her bed, glaring down at the open journal at her side.

In an annoyed, tired, and subtly frustrated tone masked in neutrality, she'll continue the accidental dictation with full intention.]

And here I thought I was home.

It never really is.

My life-- [Pause.] All of it revolves around being to read people. Predicting them, finding out how they work, observing. I can summarize people easily using just a conversation, and a lot of them statistically fit a certain mold given the circumstances... But there's always that one thing that sets a single person apart from others.

Kalinda

[gevurah]

[ She's not sure if Kalinda is just down or has secretly always been this open. ]

And what's that?

Kate

[kalinda]

It varies, really, given the group of people.

For Paradisa, I'd like to say that we all share the fact that we don't want to have to adhere to the tortures of a castle. But it's like you've said, without a home to go back to, something that people would outright reject on principle might not be as bad as their actual reality.

Kalinda

[gevurah]

The issue that poses though, is what do we give those who want to stay? There's no telling if we find a way out that it'll send us all back.

Kate

[kalinda]

The freedom to live out their lives here. If they don't want to work toward answers that will allow them to return, then that is their prerogative.

Kalinda

[gevurah]

I think it's a little crazy to want to stay here, even if they don't have much to return to. We've been taken to places like Paris before, why not there?

Kate

[kalinda]

What about those who are destined to die upon arrival? [Shrug.] In any case, the reasons behind others' willingness to leave or stay are none of my concern-- not to be blasé.

Kalinda

[gevurah]

[ She struggles to understand how people can choose to live in this world.

But she should probably get off that topic. ]

No, you're right; it's their choice in the end.

It's how life should be, right? Live life the way you want to, as long as it's not hurting others?
