LUNAR FESTIVAL | DAY ONE | ELDERS & FEAST

[Another day in Paradisa. One decorated in lights of all sorts-- lights and lanterns gracing each building in a warming array of colors and brightness. It seems to be something rather festive, a delightful change in the scenery of the castle.

In the courtyard, two bright lights can be seen stretching high into the sky, shining even in spite of the broad daylight.

What could be under these lights, one may wonder, as they catch the eye of any onlooker... in which there seems to be two figures beneath them.

Now, do you find interest in them, the increased number of fireworks within one's reach, or the feast that seesm to begin to pique within the lavishly decorated dining room?

And what is with these red envelopes?]

[ She turns around when she notices the white hand reaching for the lantern she marked for herself, laughing when she realizes who it is. ]

Galadriel! How kind of you.

[inafadingcrown]

[She laughs in turn.]

Think nothing of it.

[heloise]

[ She rests the lantern on her palm and stares at it as if it is a miracle. ]

Is it not lovely? But it still cannot compare with your golden tresses.

[inafadingcrown]

You flatter me still. [But her smile is broad and perhaps even a little warmer than usual.] It is lovely; I find it quite pleasing to see this place so full of light and life.

[heloise]

A woman told me about artificial lights. [ She holds the lantern up and peers at the world through its gaps. ] I doubt any light is artificial.

[inafadingcrown]

Electricity; I read something of it when first I arrived. [To be honest, she read something of everything when first she arrived.]

[heloise]

[ And Lucrezia thought she was well-read. ] And a man said there are sparks of electricity in one's eyes.

[inafadingcrown]

[She was rather determined to understand all these strange new things. She laughs at that.]

Did he? Are you sure this was not an attempt to charm you?

[heloise]

[ She chuckles and shakes her head. It was Barney Stinson. ]

Perhaps it was. He must have thought me simple for not understanding.

[inafadingcrown]

If he made such a judgement, the true error was his.

[heloise]

You flatter me. [ Right back at you, Galadriel. ]

If you had not been in this castle, I would wish that a reflection of you appears there. [ She gestures at the Elders. ] So I can pay my respects to you.

[inafadingcrown]

Would you? [She gives a soft little hum and looks in the direction of the Elders.] I wonder if any of my own world will be chosen.

[heloise]

I would even stay with you until you leave. Keep you company. [ Times like these she wonders how old Galadriel really is. ] Do you have elders, Galadriel?

[inafadingcrown]

I am among the eldest of my kind to remain in Middle-Earth. Círdan the Shipwright dwells there still- mayhaps a few others. Most have long since passed into the Undying Lands, West of the Sea. Though, I suppose the castle could draw them from there as well. [Very old is the answer. Very, very old.]

[heloise]

Is the Undying Lands a sort of Heaven? [ She would ask, only it is not recommended to do so of ladies. ]

[inafadingcrown]

[She laughs, but it's less warm than usual- it actually sounds a little bitter.] Not as you are like to think of it. It is the home of the Valar and the ancient Elvenhome; there all is unfading as we. There I was born in the days before the sun.

I have told you that my kind does not succumb to age as do mortals; we nonetheless feel its weight upon our shoulders. It is the custom for those who have grown weary and burdened with memory to return to the Undying Lands. [And until very recently, it was forbidden to her.]

[heloise]

[ She considers this for a minute. ] I suppose is not only in the body but also in the soul. Is it where you may find spiritual healing? Renewal?

[inafadingcrown]

[She smiles softly] You are swift to reach these understandings.

[heloise]

[ She smiles in return, bashful yet proud. ] I should know. It is my father's, and my brother's, duty to unburden the flocks of their sins, cleanse their souls.

[inafadingcrown]

A heavy responsibility. [Her own duties may be great, but at least she made no claims to affect the souls of others. Looking after her own was task enough.]

[heloise]

Indeed. [ She gets nostalgic. ] I know you are a noblewoman, Galadriel, but you have spoken little of your home.

[inafadingcrown]

What would you know? [Warning: Galadriel gets excessively poetic on this subject.]

[heloise]

I would know how it feels to wake in your room, Galadriel. What views greet you? What sweet sounds rise to your windows?

[inafadingcrown]

From my window you would see the city of Caras Galadhon spread out before you and further, perhaps, on a clear day- you might see more of Lórien, my Golden Woods. For, as with all of Caras Galadhon, my home rests in the branches of a great Mallorn tree. You would awake to the soft sounds of the city beginning to stir, mingled with the ever-present song of the forest.
