Day One: Party!

[it's the summer solstice and a huge group of demigods safely made it to camp. This is clearly a good omen for things to come. The camp is alive with music and dancing. The satyrs are jamming on their lutes and the tree nymphs come out of the trees to dance. Everybody's invited!

The party will go on long into the night. It's all for you guys, so have a blast!]

I suspect this will be the only time I will be able to leave the lake for the duration as it seems I have become a water nymph. [He'd be more bitter about that, but at least he's been allowed to keep some form of magic this time. Dhaos does, however, look somewhat curious about what Gren's become. Not sure how to ask though since he kinds-sorta offended Luna when he asked what a pony was.]

A nymph? [Weren't they usually young girls?] I guess I'm the only one that ended up as something weird. At least you look pretty normal...[He sighs and runs a hand over his head, though the horn sticking out of his head get in the way of the gesture, a little]

Appearances mean little. I have been mistaken for a demon and hunted because of it, and yet have met many good souls amongst beasts and demons alike. [There's something a little sad on the edges of his smile.]

Why would people call you a demon?

...An unfortunate error on their part. I am normally a very powerful sorcerer - perhaps the most powerful in the star system I am from - and on the particular planet I was on, those who can use magic are... Well, pure blooded humans cannot use magic. [The frightening thing is, this is not arrogance on his part.]

Ah...yeah...I see how that could happen, then. [What does he know of magic? He's got nothing to judge on] People...can be really cruel, especially when you're different. [A similar sad smile]

An unfortunate truth. But...I suppose that is what makes the truly kind ones stand out more.

True. Or at least the ones that treat everyone equally [Even if it's an equal amount of derision.]

Yes, there are those too, aren't there? [He laughs a little.] I suppose I should introduce myself. I am Dhaos.

Gren. [He offers a hand]

A pleasure. [And then there was a handshake.]

...So you said something about a star system? Did your world have space travel?

[fistfullofmagic]

In a manner of speaking. A powerful enough mage can bend space-time to travel from planet to planet. It's...not exactly a safe method though, for it consumes vast amounts of mana - magical energy - which is necessary for my species survival. Otherwise, my people just have to wait for our home comet to pass near enough to another planet for the teleporters to be effective.

You live on a comet?!

Yes. It is composed almost entirely of mana. Its unique composition allows for a naturally occurring environment that supports complex life-forms, such as plants, various wildlife, and my people.

Wow...

It sounds incredible. Why do you bother to leave?

[fistfullofmagic]

[Dhaos goes very quiet at that. It takes a long moment before he speaks again.]

...War destroyed the tree that produces the mana. I was...trying to secure a replacement... [He absently places a hand over the massive scar on his abdomen.] ...It did not end well.

[He follows Dhaos' hand with his eyes and frowns] I'm sorry.

...I don't blame the one who inflicted the wound. He thought he was doing the right thing, though his perceptions were manipulated by others who's intent was not so noble.

[...And to be fair, it is somewhat my fault that his village was destroyed, he thinks, which he will quite adamantly refrain from saying anything about. Nothing sours a conversation quite like that sort of admission.]

[Gren's more apt to be understanding than some, but yes...]

So what will happen to your planet?

...It will slowly consume itself until it can no longer sustain life. Perhaps even send ambient mana into space so that it breaks apart completely, leaving no trace we ever existed...

Can't anybody else find that, er, tree?

None from my homeworld, and those who bothered to listen are at least a century in the grave...

God...I can't even imagine...[He shakes his head sadly] I wonder how many of have this place as our only respite?
