Open Post: Swordfighting

[Your instructor may not look like he wants to be there, or really like he has any business being at a summer camp at all, but he's gathered the necessary equipment anyway, and despite the scowl, he'll actually attempt to instruct anyone who's got a serious interest.]



[ooc: Talk with Vicious or mingle with others. Just remember those swords are sharp. ;)]

[He knew how to use a knife but a sword was a completely different animal... so to speak. It wouldn't hurt to know how to use one. Who knows, in this place he might have to know one of these days.

Connor's currently looking over the swords... and whoever else might be there]

_{[Vanyel was around, thinking he could use the practice. He hadn't put much in lately, and he honestly should. Relying on his magic to much was a bad idea. He comes over to Connor, smiling.]}

Need helping deciding on a blade?

_{[He himself knew which one he planned to take up - a thinner, lighter blade more suited to his stab and dodge style.]}

[He looks up and smirks] Aye. Can't say I've ever done much sword fightin' 'fore.

That's fine, and no time like the present to try. Since you haven't before, we should choose a lighter blade till we understand your style.

_{[He looks over them and takes up what seems to be a light, one hand broadsword.]}

Try this. It is a bit heavier than my usual rapier, but I think it will do for now - basic, and simple.

[serious interest, you say? Have one girl taking up a sword and giving a few practice swipes]

_{[Ashura watches her, his own blade at his side, surprised such a young looking girl seems so comfortable with blades.]}

[you should see her with knives. Although she looks pleasantly surprised that she's stronger than usual]

_{[He really does not want to. It upsets him, seeing someone so young playing with weapons like they knew how to kill. ]}

[Gren isn't a student, but he'll be hanging out at the edge of the arena, observing]

[Somehow, he doubts that's why Gren's there.]

[He shrugs] Not unless you want me to. I thought I'd see how you're treating the children. [And he smirks at that]

If I wanted that, I'd give you private lessons.

[Not that it would be necessary. He knew Gren could defend himself in other ways.]

I haven't yelled at any of them yet.

_{[He doesn't need much instruction, not really, but he could use something to work out his aggression. He took up a thinner blade and begin to practically dance with it, suddenly glad for the physical exertion.]}

[Vicious watches for awhile before approaching. His own style is much more spare, but he can recognize the skill there.]

It doesn't seem as if you need my instruction.

Perhaps not, but sparring is never a bad thing. One can learn even at my age.

True enough. Letting skills grow rusty would be a disgrace.

[The kind of swords here aren't exactly fencing material, but Integra is managing- the weight of the sword is throwing her off and frustrating her, though her continued attempts are getting slightly better.]

[The issue here is fairly obvious to him, and her determination is enough to lure him over to offer some advice, terse as it may be.]

Work with the weight instead of trying to force it. It should be an extension of you, not a blunt object.

[The...Teacher, he must be, steps by and Integra straightens, adjusting her glasses before taking the words to heart and shifting her stance again.]

An extension... [Again, she attacks, as ferociously as before but doing a much better job at getting her sword where she wants it to go. It's still sloppy, but a start.]

[Alright. He may be a bit bumbling sometimes, but Phoenix is tired of seeing all these other people taking cool classes and looking awesome while he has nothing but sugar cubes and horses to show for it. And so he arrives at the swordfighting class, completely determined to at least learn how to hold a sword today, even if he can't do anything else with it.]

[Vicious can pretty much tell a complete novice by looking at them, so it doesn't take long for him to head over with one of the lighter, less sharp weapons in the inventory.]

Do you have any experience?

[He doubts it, but he'll ask anyway. He's supposed to be... helpful, after all.]

Not at all.

[He seems miserable about that fact, too, but he still tries to put on a brave smile regardless.]

[Shiki comes over, and starts inspecting the swords. On the outside, she's completely calm and collected, almost as if she knows what she's doing. On the inside, she's kind of super excited that she's going to get to be a warrior princess with sword fighting and everything.

But on the outside, she's totally cool as she looks over these swords she knows nothing about.]

[Vicious prefers the 'hands off' method of teaching, so while he's keeping an eye on her, he's actually going to wait to see if she does know what she's doing or not before he comes over to offer advice.]

[...Welp. No one's there, so she's just going to... pick one. She picks up a sword that looks like it might be a good length for her size and grips it in her right hand... and now she's at a loss. She's got nothing.]
