Ezio and Stephanie
Dearest friends, there is one I would have you meet.

[ Warm meals and plentiful wine, he said, so she has arranged for them all to be laid out on the drapes-turned-picnic-sheet set up by the orchards, with apple trees overhead. Roasted meats, grapes and pears, bread and the finest wine.

Lucrezia would have music as well if she could, but the ghosts would not oblige. So she just hums a random song, not quite in tune, and begins a little dance meant for a couple.

She laughs. ]

You would let me dance alone, brother?

She laughs at their reactions.]

It's modern music! It's catchy!

[C'mon, Cesare. DANCING. She reaches for his hands to dance around like a weirdo. It's not any sort of style, just vaguely to the beat.]

[ Lucrezia laughs at Steph, and more at Cesare for being forced to dance like a weirdo. If only Juan could see this. ]

But why is he asking the baby if it would go down?

[No, Cesare does not like this! It winds up looking mostly like a parent whose arms are being tugged around by a small child.]

But I do not know the steps.

[Ezio laughs.]

"Baby" is a pet name in their time. Could you imagine being called bambina by a lover?

And "down" as in interested!

[Trying not to laugh at Cesare.] And there aren't any steps. You just sorta go with it.

[Cesare's still a new acquaintance, so she's merciful and backs off. You're next, Lucrezia. Sorry, Ezio, Steph's cutting in to grab her hands and attempt to get her to bounce along.]

[ She laughs at her brother's expense and the giggling fit just continues until Steph makes her bounce around. She assumes she's making up the steps as much as she did! ]

I yield, I yield, I'm down!

[This is funnier when someone else is the victim. Cesare steps back to watch the girls bounce about like little birds.]

[X( STEPH. Ezio just retrieves his wine goblet to drink.]

They're [bounce, hop] no fun!

[Boys. X( At least Lucrezia plays along.]

[ Still laughing, the bouncing makes her laugh too hard. ]

Is this called dancing, Stephanie?

Or just bobbing.

I prefer the other kind of bobbing.

[... was that supposed to sound bad? It sounds bad. Steph leaves Lucrezia to try to get Ezio to dance around with her. Thank god for her energy.]

[ Yep, everything Ezio says just sounds bad. ]

I suppose it is more effective for dancing away all the wine.

[Cesare sidles up to Lucrezia, giving a Look to Ezio.]

I can see how this would be more fun when there's a great deal of wine to dance away.

[He chuckles, taking Stephanie's hand and moving in close to her to dance her silly dance, other hand still holding the wine.]

[A true Italian, right? Steph laughs.]

Fine, fine. I'll stop.

[ She clutches at Cesare's sleeve when he comes closer. ]

No, don't stop. That only means we need more wine.

But Stephanie barely drank the wine we gave her.

[He wraps an arm around Stephanie's waist and tips her, intending to dip her low.]

That is because Stephanie is an American, and Americans drink little wine. Instead they drink caffe and tea and other beverages made from leaves.
