[There are some dainty sniffles coming from the journal today, as if they came from someone who had just begun to recover from a cry, and not even the good kind of cry that makes you feel better. A couple cake batter fingerprints appear, and then are hastily wiped away. That only smudges the paper.]

Oh...I'm sorry about that, I...

[A pause. Jane blows her nose.]

I was...cleaning up a mess...in the kitchen. I'm really sorry about all of that batter...in the sink...that's my fault...!

[Oh sugar, her voice is cracking. Better make this quick.]

I think I'm...ready to admit to my loss...

All of you were right. I'm sorry I was so prickly about it before.

And... it'll be okay. When you go home, you'll have your loss back again, so it'll only be gone for a little while. Even if it's painful now, it'll all be okay eventually.

...But...no one knows when they'll get home. Aren't there people who have been here for years?

Well... some do stay for a long time, but most go home after just a few months. And no one has stayed here forever, so everyone goes home eventually.

I guess the only hope for my baking is to go home, then, by hook or by crook.

...Oh! Gosh, I know who you are, but you don't know me, and you've been really kind through this whole thing...

Baking? [;A; poor thing] Maybe you can bake, just in different ways! Even if you can't do the baking part, maybe you could bake with someone else, or you could help someone bake? It wouldn't be the same... but maybe it would be fun?

Oh! [hehe, she sounds a bit sheepish] It's okay, you don't have to be sorry. My name is Colette!

Ah, yes, baking. I - I would like to help someone bake, if I could, and heaven knows there are so many more desserts I can make without the oven. I just don't think it would be quite the same.

I'm feeling a little better, yes. I think the cry helped a little bit. I don't feel good, but...I definitely feel better.
