Well, I just filtered to half the castle, I think. The least I could do is say hi.

[And now Fred's managed to lose herself completely in her lab, forgetting to close the journal that still rests at her side. The occasional clinking of test tubes can be heard. Glass slides being moved. Calculations being muttered under her breath...]

[She looks at her shoulder at Lois entry, stepping out from behind the table she'd been working at]

It's definitely one of the best perks of moving in to live with Harmony. I used to manage a lab back home. I didn't realize how much I missed it.

You heard about the mirror world kidnappings a few weeks back?

And the thing they found the library.

The information that we managed to copy? [Fred nods, of course Lois would've heard. She slides a small journal across the counter towards the other woman] That's the actual book we found. The one that allowed us to communicate with everyone back here. It's silent now, but I thought you might like to see it.

[loisfuckinglane]

[ and she's all over it, greedily reaching to put her paws on it for herself, although she's careful as she opens it. ]

Is there anything left inside or did it vanish?

Well, everything that we wrote back and forth is still there. But that's it. I tried to get some readings, sort out how the connection was formed. But it just seems to be some kind of variation on our own journals.

[Truthfully it's made her question a lot of things]

When we were there, at the library. There were shelves and shelves of books, some of them belonging to former residents.

So have we figured out, well, what this place was? A parallel universe? A pocket dimension?

There were parts about it, it literally felt mirrored. But then when we hard to start running for our lives...

Well, it doesn't leave as much time for exploring.

I wonder if any of the First Gens have been there before.

It's probably definitely worth asking the question.

Except that the only one who'll talk to me is Reno, and I feel bad constantly bombarding her with more questions.

Are questions really that bad a thing? Do you think she minds?

[loisfuckinglane]

I don't know, but she runs a risk every time she agrees to get on the line. I still think they locked her up for talking to us once.

[She doesn't like it. She's never liked it. And it is why Fred has found herself reaching out to Lois]

I hate this. I hate all the not knowing.

[loisfuckinglane]

You and me both. But pooling together and digging? Is the only way to shine a light on all the mystery around here.

[fredless]

[Fred nods, the movement tight but clearly in agreement]

Why don't you take the journal for a while, see if it sparks anything. It's mine now, so nobody else should miss it.

[ her eyes brighten at the suggestion ] Seriously?

[That actually earns a smile, and a wide one at that]

Seriously.

It'll be in good hands, don't worry.

Keep it as long as you need. I think you're person most likely to get something useful out of it, anyway.

It's just nice to hear that there are people out there still ready to work for some answers.
