Adam you can't do this!

[Travel through the portal had disoriented her and the dark haired woman faltered in her step as she dashed across the lobby. She came to a stop on the polished floor, looking up and around her.]

Well, this is unexpected.

[Where was she? More importantly where was Adam worth? Helen couldn't place this interior from anywhere she'd been before, it felt...odd. Archaic yet new.

Come out Adam, it doesn't have to be this way. You don't realize what you're doing.

[Maladict was making her way to the kitchen for her normal cup of coffee, but the sight of Helen made her pause in her tracks]

...Well, you wasted no time coming back, did you?

[Helen paused when the woman spoke; but there was no sense of recognition in her eyes.]

I beg your pardon, but I'm not entirely sure where I am. [She looked around herself again] But I do think I'd remember a place like this.

[He had only pulled the journal out to make sure Nikola hadn't blown something up with his absence and Mal hadn't stopped him.

It's the only reason why he's staring at this entry yup.

But he's not one to avoid issues (no that's a lie really but sshh) but he can't really see her from where he is so he'll settle for the next best thing.

Digging into his repertoire of voices and sounding nothing at all like himself.]

I'm terribly sorry miss but the person you are looking for is not here. [...James have you even seen Star Wars to know what that phrase sounds like?] Perhaps I can be of some assistance?

[Helen blinked and finally noted the voice issuing from her pocket, wherein was a small leather bound book. With her free hand, the other still holding her pistol, she opened the book, it fell to a page where neat script matched the words that were spoke.]

...Bloody hell....

It would depend on who you are, and what you know of the person I am looking for.

[The tone was polite, but the cold note of interrogation could not be missed.]

[This isn't the first time he's gone through this song and dance, especially with her. Which is why he's trading talking out for writing. Mostly as he knows eventually she'll more than likely catch on if he talks and slips as he can disguise his handwriting better.]

That the last time you were here you were also searching for a gentleman by the name of Adam Worth and he has yet to arrive even during your absence. And I am the journal you are looking at.

[He's doing his best to ignore her tone though. He's a book he's unflappable by tone of voice.]

I have not been here before. But if you know anything about Adam Worth you must tell me now.

I'm talking to a book...and it's writing everything I am saying.

[Helen shook her head in bewilderment as she examined the book and the writing which copied her words and actions.]

Yes you have been here before. Take a look through my pages you will find evidence of your having been here before.

As for Adam, be assured that your arrival in 1898 puts an end to his scheme for quite some time.

And do watch your language Miss Magnus, [He's having way to much fun with this so sorry Helen.] children read this.

[Another entry in the book, a decidedly different hand, feminine writing echoing the voice that mysteriously came from the book.]

This is Helen Magnus, I'm afraid you have me at a disadvantage.

[Helen was baffled but as she flipped back through pages she did indeed see something of a story behind her initial pages. She...some version of her possibly even further future than she was now, had been here. Or someone was going to a good deal of trouble to make her think as much, in either case in order to find out the point of all this she needed to play along. At least for the time being.

And then the book chastised her...she scowled for a few moments before breaking into a smile.]

Cheeky.

[And two before her too but James hadn't been here for either of them. Nikoal however had and James was worrying how he was going to take this.

But for now he's just going to concentrate on the one in the castle. Even if she doesn't remember everything they had done (which he doubts she did as they had just gotten back from the latest world change and Helen had been a cat then).]

Few things a book can do when one can only speak to others when they open me. Maximillian, Miss Magnus, and it is a pleasure to see you back.

[Helen was off put by having to deal with the book as a living entity. Would it have been offended to be put in her pocket? How did one deal with a sentient book?]

I've seen a myriad of life forms; but this is, I will admit, a first. Where is it that I am, if you would be so kind.

[He's sorry Helen really for putting you into such a bind when it comes to book rights. He really really is.

This castle and the world are both called Paradisa

Paradisa, paradise the garden of Eden. Well this bodes well if I avoid fruit trees and serpents.

[Helen took another chance to inspect the castle around her, finally holstering her pistol.]

So, what purpose can there be for distracting me from my earlier path? You said that my arrival in 1898 stopped Adam Worth, but if I am here now, rather then there how can I be sure that has been accomplished? I need to know that the timeline has been restored or at least not further altered.

No matter the cost.

[That tone, those words a decidedly darker sentiment than normal for Helen.]

[Galadriel pauses midway across the lobby when she sees Helen. She had been on her way out, but- how is that her friends always arrive mid-crisis?

Ah, but it wouldn't do to be too friendly now. Few things are more unsettling than someone knowing you far better than you know them. So she settles on approaching with a smile and a rather formal nod of greeting.]

Dr. Magnus. [Back to titles until invited to address her otherwise. It only seemed proper.]

[Maladict sighs. This was terrible timing, thanks Paradisa. You're a real hoot]

You won't remember me. I'm Maladict, and you've been here before. Hard pill to swallow, I know, but there you go.

Decidedly difficult to do so here, the castle insures that it is.

[And then a pause at that. That's not quite like the Helen he knows, at least not before her 113 year exile. Hrmm...]

Because the castle pauses time as it were back home with your removal. Or so others have said, recent evidence of a sort has shown that not everyone returns home when they leave the castle. [No just alternate worlds and it's weird.]

The timeline however, is restored. Fully, at least that was what the you that was here before implied.

[She'd been afraid of this. That the castle wouldn't bring her back with her memories of this place intact. But....at least she was back]

I'm Doctor River Song. You must be a bit overwhelmed by all of this. Has James contacted you yet?

So while I dawdle here, my own timeline and the history I am aiming to protect has been frozen? I may have pride but this sounds a bit much to be expected even for me.

I have learned in the harshest of possible ways, that time stands still for no man, or woman.

[Adam was trying to save his daughter, she was just as pained by the loss of her own daughter. Ashley, who might still be out there but for all Helen's abysmal failure to find her, to bring her home.]

Doctor Song, I'm afraid I am a bit overwhelmed, this place is...well it defies the laws of nature to say the least.

James? James Watson? He's here?

[Agitation in her voice now, well not truly but there was an excitement in her tone to be sure.]

I am beginning to gather that, but thank you for the introduction Ms Maladict.

You've been here before, this place sometimes erases prior knowledge of the castle. You and I were good friends.

[Helen turned with a cant to her head. Natural smile of greeting for one who was familiar with her. Until she realized no one here should be familiar with her. Or...this person had known the previous Helen, one of them anyway. Oh dear, murky interpersonal waters to navigate. But the more she learned the easier it was getting.]

Ah, I don't mean to be rude but I believe you have me confused with a previous incarnation of myself. I'm only recently arrived.

[But catching on quickly, good mind that one.]

[GRUMBLE. Come on Helen it's not that hard. Don't make him sick you on the Time Lord to explain this.

A sigh. Yes the book just sighed and he goes back to writing.

But he is growing concerned, very much so.]
