On the kitchen counter is an instruction sheet for a Torta Pane Degli Angeli among packets of flour and sugar, piles of eggshells, a large bowl of egg yolks and one cake that literally fell flat. Everything is dusted with a generous coating of flour and icing sugar, like the girl currently beating egg whites with gusto.

I don't know. [ She just struggles to warp her head around it. ] I spent all of my life believing that my parents abandoned me on the side of the road, then I get told that they sent me through a magic cupboard to save me from a curse and not only that they really are Snow White and Prince Charming.

I just... don't know. [ How to deal with it. Any of it. ]

Yeah, Snow White and Prince Charming? They're characters from stories every kid gets told when they're young.

[ Sharp inhale. ] I don't know about you but I think someone trying to convince you your parents are characters from a book is worse.

I see. [ No wonder the names sounded unlike--real people names. ]

Perhaps they were people before they became characters in a book.

It didn't trap me. [ Not the point. ] But yeah, basically all the fairy tale characters got trapped in Storybrooke and all forgot who were before.
